There was a community station that was been talked about else were had news items that were 3 weeks old, I suppose it could do away with if theres no legal requirement, I don’t know if there is or not, personally I don't think there should be on a music station.
I’ve often tuned across fm on the hour and heard news on every station, I noticed caroline dosen’t seem to have it on am, on radio 1 you had news beat, on the half hour?, I suppose my parents used to tune to radio 1, maybe why I have memories of news beat the road shows on it.
I never listened to ILR radio, I always felt it was not for me, more for mark and lard characters, suppose when dab came along there were stations there that broke away from that didn’t have news, were more automated like the music channels on tv at the time, tmf and the hits. I would listen to them, they may of had no adverts too or limited ones, no loud mouth djs no toxic environment. When i've heard news on dab stations now I often just tune away, I think there was no enforcement of the news on dab stations but I could be wrong.
I suppose they put stations on there they said there was no space on fm for, that has also meant fm had gone down abit of dead end road, which is a shame, with its fate sealed, a different topic I suppose, upsetting.
is there legal requirement in uk for stations on am/fm to play the news

Re: is there legal requirement in uk for stations on am/fm to play the news
We're going back a while here but the RSLs I was involved with in the 90s did provide a news service, because we had a tie up with one of the local Universities and their journalism post-grads ran it in conjunction with interested volunteers. It wasn't a condition of our licence though; obviously things may have changed in the intervening years...

I suppose that could of been some kind of work experience training for them, maybe been louis lane or something, there was an rsl used to come on for a carnival think they were mostly about training too. I think they run out of money, guess money for these types of things has gone now. I was amazed it was 1w, I suppose its worth asking I was surprised when they just came out and told me, i'm the last person to know about anything.
I read something a while ago, it made it seem that they would maybe be forcing all stations on dab to have the news, it made me worry, the government are sticking their noise in everywhere now, its not used as much now with the internet.
