Hi folks, this is Reece. I’m from Deeside in North Wales and one of my keenest interests is in radio of all descriptions, pirate or otherwise :D

One reason for which I’ve chosen to join is to find out more about Radio North, amongst other stations. I plan to visit Northern Ireland next month to watch my beloved Chester FC play against Glentoran in a friendly and was thinking of showing my face over the border to try and find where the station broadcasts from. If you search for the station on Google Images, you get the picture of a kind of Portakabin building with mesh over the windows and what looks like a Sky dish. Is this genuinely what the station premises look like?

I tried getting a QSL some years ago from what An Post said was their “studio”, going by their Eircode, but no joy. It was with great sadness that I heard, on this very forum, that the station’s owner passed away in 2023. I wonder who’s in charge of the station now? All power to them, I say!

Being from Deeside, I feel that my FM band is incredibly busy here, with radio from Chester, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Preston, Blackburn, Manchester, Stoke and Shrewsbury being easily received here. It would be interesting to find out if other fellow listeners feel the same about the band where they live. Since I’ve heard of Sporadic E, I’ve also been impatient to take advantage of this, as and when it occurs. FMSCAN has been some help so far!

I welcome any thoughts as to the above and other things you think might be of interest. I’m all ears, as they say! Cheers, folks, and let’s talk soon. 73s ;)
