Flirt fm 101.3 blank carrier

Post by radionortheast » Thu Jan 02, 2025 2:17 pm

I was able to tune the west mayo receiver with it been unoccupied this morning, I remember watching a video of pirate with the name, this is a community station, doesn’t seem to be transmitting anything at the moment other than a blank carrier, I couldn’t detect any pirates through it, unless their playing pop. It was really interesting seeing Lyric fm on the same frequency we get radio 1 here, classical music in the middle of band, felt like i’d gone to another dimension. 8-)

I noticed it silent about a week ago and saw the name Flirt FM come up on the RDS and instantly thought maybe it's the same pirate in that video with them driving quad bikes up mountains and running huge transmitters on big generators but no this Flirt FM looks like it's indeed a licenced station.

Yeah I think thats the same video I saw, it did sort of stand out on the online tuner, it was the only station not transmitting anything and with the name that came up 8-)

The station is a student/community outfit so maybe they're off for the Christmas holidays ?

I did think of that too, it made me think again about how there were other people who would want to broadcast, i’ve already mentioned that I didn't want to be annoying.

Hi... This is my web tuner, FlirtFM is only licensed to operate during the university term, so when the university is shut so is the station. I suppose due to practicality it is left on a dead carrier instead of knocking off the TX manually. Their FM also has different hours to their webstream. Mon-Fri 11.30am~4am / Sat 1~10pm.

I guess its abit like ury in york, when I first heard that it was relaying a message about not been on during term time through the online stream, fm was relaying a list of songs, I didn’t know what it was at first, obviously better than it been just a blank carrier, I suppose these stations have differences between what comes through fm what comes through the web stream.

I do remember a temporary radio, they would get their stream from fm, when the fm signal went down, someone with a transmitter could of heard it coming through, abit like an early sdr 20 years ago now.
