Absolutely. They deserve it. I have a couple of mates who DJ on there so its Fantastic news.
On the down side, Knowing Ofcom they'll only allow them the lowest possible bitrate 64kbs is it? and only in mono, but hey, its something.
Good luck fellas.

DAB+ bitrates are confusing. 48kbps is equivalent to 128kbps so Release may find their sound quality isn't too bad, though it certainly won't be great.
If there's one reason to stick to FM it's sound quality!

64kbps sound will be like your on AM radio no treble at all. But good luck to them on that they did well.

Re: release fm
Fair dos to them, I can see some other stations in the future doing the same thing. I would say I wish Centreforce or something would come to SDL National but with the fees it would just turn into another garbage commercial station like every other station on D1/SDL. I'll stick to quality over quantity, and one FM pirate is a million times better than 100 Global or Bauer clones.

According to the London bandscan post, they're still operating away on FM. Surely not a wise idea?

...Yes Rinse still continued on for a short while longer as a pirate on 100.4 after they were granted their licence.

For about a week just long enough to let the people know and very soon after house came on 100.3 and the stations guide now is hopelessly out of date at the moment

Re: release fm
People often get confused with bit rates. 64kbps mono is 1 half of 128kbps stereo. Mono is what pirates use anyway.
I do hope DAB doesn’t get any more popular though.

Re: release fm
Is it? I thought 128k Joint Stereo (which is the stereo format used at 128k) was similar to FM's DSB-SC, i.e. the difference signal. There is a very noticable difference between 64k mono and 128k stereo, and not just the fact that only one channel is used.

Nah 64kbps mono is equal to 128kbps stereo. It’s just in mono.
I’m currently streaming to my site as we speak at 80kbps mono and it sounds mint.
