One thing I will mention, I was logged on and there was someone on there using it so I was waiting for them and you came in (dublindance) and started tuning it without asking first. If you don't ask people if you can retune you can get reported and lose your account. The guy left after giving BOTH OF US a lot of abuse but after the way he spoke to me I went ahead and reported him lol.

No worries, just a tip for tuning to stations 0.1mhz away from strong stations. Tune at 50khz bandwidth and add an extra 35khz to your tuned frequency.

For example to hear Ontop 95.5 you will need to tune 95.535 to hear it when the bandwidth is set to 50k because 95.4 is very strong. So always tune with an extra 35khz on any frequency when listening at 50khz. You will hear much more stations than when using the standard 230khz tuning.

anyone ever tried tuning to their own transmitter, think it would become obvious to the owner?

Not so long ago someone built a shortwave transmitter and I know they listened to the signal a few 100kms away on one of these things

When I was doing a station in Manchester a pal from London would regularly listen to it on the old Stockport tuner in South Manchester. Unfortunately it was only on the site for a few months, it had great reception and would regularly pull in weak pirates from West Yorkshire.

I had some of those New York pirates on there a couple of years back, they seem to have disappeared since then. It's good for some of the Dutch FM pirates too. There's almost always somebody listening to Airband on the London ones though :/

Yeah I logged about 50 different pirates over a period of a few months using the NYC tuner. Some of them sound so similar to the London Ragga stations.
The guy used to have a dipole on his roof which pulled loads of them in but now he's using a wire dipole like yours attached to the wall and some of the stations which were solid signals are now barely audiable.

Ah, that explains it then. Yeah, they are similar to the UK ragga stations, more generally Caribbean than Jamaican centered though I think. You get a bit of that kind of thing on the commercial station WBLS too, although that's more of a mature Soul and Disco / Hip Hop station.

Yeah, the main kind of styles they played was Soca which is pretty rare on the UK stations.
