I suppose it's possible I do know them but I don't know who's doing it, if that makes sense. So I don't know 100% that it isn't whoever took the rig but that certainly wasn't my first thought, for a few reasons.
"Oxygen" was on the day after Innov8 came off. I know at least 3 people used 101.4, regularly or occasionally, before Innov8 put their rig back on. 101.4 was pretty much the only decent frequency left in Manchester unless you go below 88. So, I wasn't surprised someone popped up on there so quickly.
Finally, and I know the following is not conclusive, but - the rigs sound different. Oxygen's rig has slightly more hum on the carrier than Innov8 did. Innov8 had RDS, this doesn't. This is in stereo, Innov8 wasn't. Yes I appreciate it could still be the same rig, but I just think all this stacks the odds against it. It's a fair few technical differences to achieve in one day, plus setting up.

Looks like love NRG have vanished, as have Innov8.

Rumour has it that Mixology will be back very soon as well on 101.4...

I've been up around Manchester the last few days visiting relatives and managed to get up to Hearthead Pike for a bandscan.

Irie - Feeling the squeeze, but it was there.

LoveNRG - Really needs to sort a comp/limiter out. The overmod is seriously bad, makes it a tough listen.

99.8 - charty sounding dance music. Obviously linking via the internet as the stream dropped out for a few seconds when I was listening. Could be a community station as there is one in Merseyside on 99.8, but anybody know what it is?

I had literally 20mins to do the scan, so couldn't stop and listen to everything, so I only found 99.8 tonight when I played my SDR recordings back.

That'll be KCC Live from Knowsley.

What about the thing on 87.5 that you mentioned on Skywaves? I'm sure I picked that up on my way back from Wales last week.

I thought it might be KCC, but I wasn't sure if it was a bit too far away.

Nothing on 87.5 up on Hearthead Pike. I heard it going through Cheshire briefly on Wednesday, but it wasn't there on Saturday morning going back. The only Midlands pirate I heard was Kriss.

If it wasn't KCC Live the only other station on 99.8 would be 2BR from Bury.

As for the 87.5 thing i was in Warrington last Sunday evening and just caught the last 10 minutes before closedown. I've not heard it before and doubt that I'd get it from my location.

That's a long way out from where I heard it. I couldn't hear it in Macclesfield, so I'm very surprised.

Sure this is the same thing? 80s Jukebox?

I've no idea if it was of not. I only caught the last 10 minutes and there was no station id, just the dj saying if was closing down. They were however playing 80s tunes so I've no idea.

Did not expect to see you hanging on this forum of all places . There used to be IrieIrie on 105.8 but as far as I know they're inactive, website says they're "going through some changes" but has said that for at least a year. Apparently MAR on 87.5 can hit Manchester Airport but I don't know of anything on 108. Did you get a recording?

Astley is definitely within TSA for some of the pirates that come on every now and then, just keep checking 87.5, 87.7, 100 fm, 108fm, and 101.7, sadly frequencies are scarce

Do you, have an antenna on your roof?

Haha I'm everywhere! Yeah I saw that on Irie! Shame! Hopefully they'll be back soon.

I didn't get a recording no I was out at the time and when I got home it'd gone off the air!

Do I know you by another alias? ;) haha

Nope I just recognise you from YouTube. I didn't think broadcast pirates were your sort of sector :tup.

Manchester has been dead for quite some time now. When I left Manchester about 10 years ago there was only about 2 stations still about and one of them only covered a 5 mile radius, I was living there from about 2007 to 2011 and throughout that whole time I only picked up about 2 or 3 more stations on and off over those years.

...From what I understand though back in the 90s Manchester was thriving, but by the time I got there it seemed to have died down (much like Liverpool), although Birmingham still had at least 25 to 30 stations back then which is about 20 more than there is now
(and one of two of those could be heard on the Manchester hills)

It sure was , I gave it up to work on ILR, but had fun on many different stations including my own , between 1988 and 1997, I miss those times, from keeping an eye out for the dti with a pair of binoculars on the top of a tower block in heywood to tearing around the hillside in Macclesfield. Fun times
