Is there any advantage of a NRG/veronica based transmitter over something that uses the SAA or TSA chips? They are so much more compact. Are you sacrificing anything in these single chip PLLs? Does it have a wider carrier or spurs or is it basically the same? Is it as bad as the BH1415 chip?

Also whats the difference between the SAA and TSA? I see them used pretty much interchangeably.

If you know what are you doing, there is no difference in quality betwen NRG and other designs. NRG design was made when this single chip pll were very expensive and hard to get. Also, NRG design is good to learn how pll works because it is more "descrete". All that you have on that large board in pll section is integrated into this single chip PLLs.
TSA and SAA are not interchangable. They have totally different pinouts, different programming words and even working ranges.
