RDS

Someone recently said to me RDS is more risky than just using a rig. In my eyes I'm not convinced on that comment. Has anyone got any views on this?
Thanks in ad

It is just more expensive. Nobody can "track" your RDS coder, if i understood your question correctly...

He probably means using 'scrolling' RDS.

As long as you leave TA off you will probably be fine.

rds is fine, just set the levels properly so you are not overmodulating into stations eitherside of you

That's good to here, so its a matter of setting the RDS carefully up to avoid any over modulation.
This is the RDS wouldn't say expensive, listing is @ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111684528677? ... 26_rdc%3D1

I must say, this doesn't look like "true broadcast quality" to me. I think PIRA would be better and it is few £ more. I don't say pira is the best choice tho...

Perhaps he should remove it. He brought a Stereo encoder/limiter from the same guy as well due to the fact rig was in MPX

Stay clear of PCB Wizard Ebay Stereo Encoder if thats what you were referring to. Its a load of shit and cannot be syncronised with his rds. Stay clear.

Any suggestions of a simple way to add RDS to a stereo transmitter with left/right aux connectors? I understand you need to add the RDS after the stereo coder, but I really don't want to go soldering stuff cause I'll break it!!

I also want hardware RDS and not the computer stuff, any suggestions of how it can be done, or is it a matter of getting the soldering iron out?

what's your aux connector for? Or is it just left and right? What sort of TX is it?

sorry i meant just left and right, its a dutch tx, looks the business but just has left/right input

Well if it's one of the main Dutch lads I'd be surprised if it's not been designed with a proper stereo coder so that you can add RDS, in fact there's probably a designated point to inject it. But it's most likely a soldering iron job if they haven't exposed an RDS input on the outside of the rig! Post a pic of the innards or ask the designer if he's here ;)

Realy cannot answer that without picture. Anyway, proper way of inserting rds is after stereo coder, but if you want to be serious, you must use 19khz pilot to generate 57khz so they are locked in phase.... I will explain this further when i finish video tutorials

I know little about RDS, so to all those in the know what are your thoughts on this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDS-ENCODER-F ... 2a54d43ed4
In the description it states that it can be used 'standalone', so I presume this means it can be programmed with the station name then just thrown in the box with the transmitter without any connection to a PC ever required, correct?

That should work OK but I don't know how clean it would be.

....Those PLL Band 1 receivers look pretty decent though.

that stuff you have listed above is built and designed by me. Its very clean I promise. The little rds works a dream.
I have hundreds of them RDS's, ive got the band1 rx's to. Also recently done a pira mrds1322 board just for pocket money on ebay.. Got the raspberry pi stuff to
