Right so I've been really wondering this for a while now so I need to find this out....

On the SDR site many of us here use I have noticed on some of the tuners (not all of them) logos and pictures coming up for some stations and I'd really love to know how the hell it's done??

I noticed on Reading tuner that 107.3 Albumheads the little Rock pirate was showing Karizma 87.8's logo but 87.8 is really weak on there nowhere near strong enough to get RDS. And have seen some other London pirate logos come through like Wk-End's but it doesn't always show.

How is this done please.....

We use the rds id and the logos are maintained, some are hosted on the individual servers, others are used/delivered from the main server I believe

How would one set up a server? Im planning on setting one up in Pakistan... For my own use and monitoring and for others to have a little nosy lol.

A couple of years ago this company contacted me - but on my Radio Brian's email.

They wanted money, I forget how much, and the Station Logo and they would make sure it got into some radios in Cars

Maybe they've got the same pi code, I don't know have to remember that next time I use that receiver wasn't aware there was something there on 107.3

Licensed stations are in the database hosted by fmdx.org, the other ones are hosted by the server owner with the pi code of the pirate station. it's a big database on fmlist.org of all stations in the world (that we know of)

Thinking about this it might default to the first station, if it can’t get the logo, thats why the logo for the station on 87.8 shows up. It must know gps location of the reciever to get the distance in kms, i’m often fasinated by this when i’m tuning through recievers, checking the db reading the power of the transmitter the distance, if its in the area you can compare it to what you get on your own tef.

There are 3 different algorithms that can be selected, slightly different with the intension of serving different regions. Ideally it will find licencesed station with the pi code but also I think it’s using your chosen location in setting to find the most likely tx site based on your location. Quite cool really. You can make your own submission too

After fiddling around on fmdx for a bit, one thing I noticed, them TEF radios are proper nice impressive fuck off tuners. I am going to buy one of them as a treat for myself and not put it online or share it at all!

its a plugin you install to your server. you download the stations image and rename it to match the stations PI CODE. I will be adding to my servers soon.

Share it when you are not using, you can lock it if you need 1 on 1 time
