Unity fm (huddersfield)

Post by radionortheast » Thu Oct 24, 2024 2:41 pm

Anyone remember this, not really my cup of tea, I often walk round some woods listening to on a pocket radio though I was quite far away from Huddersfield, seemed to be a bit easier to pick up than the Sheffield pirates (I can't remember what the reception was like at the same place, I could hear Joy fm going up the hill, scr could be heard walking in the field, before the farmers got mad stopped everyone), It also had interesting frequencies 108 was one, seemed to get interfered a lot by tv's. 88.1 was the one it moved to

Unfortunately I don’t think it is, from the sound of it he maybe supplied transmitters, 8-) it did transmit on the same frequency as radio frequency, this was back in 1999, so earlier. I think dj Shock was on Move fm 99.9 at the time or maybe earlier, there was also Test fm on 88.1, I seem to think came on a few years later, he was on both, I think radio frequency came along around 2006/2008. They all had strong signals, he was also the dj I heard when dream fm came back for a short period, was a few years after it had gone off air. I'm pretty sure i’ve heard him on a recording of an earlier station to dream too maybe it was around in the same period, not one I heard though, nrg radio, does sound like some pirates existed on classic fm frequencies before it came along, bit too early for me. https://www.piratearchive.co.uk/yorkshi ... k-1992.mp3

Yeah I think NRG was his first station from what I heard and his pal Steve changed the Veronica transmitters name to NRG as well.

....Pretty sure he was on Dream in their earlier days before it went off as well

The first station I played was ABC FM in 1986 when I was 14.
My first station was Lethal FM started in the summer of 1987 each weekend which got raided by the then DTI in March 1988.

The Unity in Huddersfield had no connections to me, at that time in 1988 until 1992 I was on PCR Bradford as well as a few 2 or 3 pop up pirates I ran with a few mates from high school that then led on to NRG starting June of 1992 when we all started going out raving and taking drugs, in October 1992 Chris the guy who ran Dream FM tracked me down and offers me the merger with Dream FM to kill off his competitor, I had faith in the expansion plans he sold me about where he wanted to take Dream FM and he followed up with those promises like the true gentleman he is.

Thanks for that saved to my bookmarks for future listening 8-)
Dj’s shock & kaos (04-02-89) quite a cool mix, never heard anything like that on a radio, does sound like something I heard on the brooklyn pirate radio or soundtrack from an old game.
I listened to the one above it earlier on, the song by humanoid - cry baby, not heard that one before is kind of trippy, I think people today could even like that at least the start of it. 8-) not sure what they’d think of oldskool hip hop beats mixed together thats just my thing.
