Is it open season??

So everyone is under lockdown, streets are empty and only critical work is permitted. This means OFCOM (here its COMREG) are self isolating and binging the netflux like the rest of us. I reckon if you are not causing interference you could stick on a fat transmitter for the duration - maybe months - and get away with it. People are banged up at home at the moment, it'd be almost a public service to provide them some entertainment - what you all think?

Yeah do it from home much safer that way, at least you won't infect all those hundreds of people that live up masts or up on tower block roofs. :tup

Yeah, it's been quiet up here since we were raided in 2006 (Club FM). We're back on air but only broadcast a few times in the month, need to keep those fuckers guessing  ... it's worked for 2 years now.

The reverse to what you speculated is in fact what transpired in Eire.
There was much less significant pirates post-pandemic than pre-pandemic.
The point has been made that income to licenced stations hugely dropped during the pandemic (stations may not have survived at all without all the government ads ) and issues that these stations were less than happy about, including (but not limited to) pirate radio would have got hugely magnified in that environment.
The threat to Avaition line would be used to mobilize action (getting warrents etc), effectively regardless of restrictions (and a day out for them and their rigger contractors to boot, during restrictions).

One of the stations forceably shut down in the pandemic , cross-border station Wild Country which had transmitted from County Louth across into Northern Ireland on 103.6MHz, has returned legally on small scale DAB within NI in Newry and surrounding areas

:rip 5 years later... I know it didn't happen, I didn't do it myself cos I don't go up poles or on rooves anymore - I forgot that until I went to dig out a transmitter, then I chickened out...
