For that price you have a complete new rig with swr protection and 150W real watts and clean :)
Did you pay more then 300gbp for that rig?

I never paid quite that much for it, i've added a little extra onto the price for postage and packing.

The amp looks like it's been laying around in someones junk box since the 80's, it may have been built recently with old parts, i wouldn't like to bet on it.

I'd bench test the transmitter first to see if it's actually works before connecting to an aerial, as others have said add a lpf on the output, make sure the aerial is tuned or the output transistor will more than likely fry if theres a mismatch.

How do you know the guy you got it off, his he a member on here?

I'd be having a quite word in his ear about a refund if i'd paid for a new 150 watt transmitter, unless you got a really good deal.
Seems my builder has not been 100% straight with me doesn't it. I met him after buying some gunnplexer horns off him on ebay. He has been pratting about for about a month and a half building this rig for me. I've text him twice aready, no reply yet from him but he is very slow to respond in any case. I must admit, I was expecting something a little neater than this to be delivered to me and i'm still to fire it up and test it yet. It still needs an audio input putting in!

Analyser wrote:Not sure how you guys can see the numbers on the transistors but if the final is a 2N6166 be careful, they are not rugged at all and will blow quite easily into a poor antenna.

As others have said you may find this hums a bit (or maybe not, just have to try it) and also I would add a low pass filter.

The driver is a greek design from a guy calling himself Aspisys. I haven't had one on the bench ever but saw the circuit diagram which looked okay to my eyes.

When you fire this up, firstly make sure the antenna is 100% good and secondly periodically check how hot the heatsink is getting; if you can't hold your hand on it for more than a few seconds it's too hot.
My dipole is tuned to the frequency that I asked the rig builder to set it to, so hopefully, if I was to test it out, I should be ok in that area. I will be sure to keep an eye on the heatsink as well. I need to wire it up for MPX input - have you got a link to the circuit diagram you mention above please? I assume I will just need to use a fan connector on the driver board with the other end wired up to an RCA jack mounted on the case? Still no reply from the builder....

Not really built for pirate use but it was a nice little project i built many years ago!

The NRG stereo 1watt complete with Velleman PSU and stereo VU meters! Also 15v unregulated DC output for an optional small PA! :D

Something interesting going on with those 5 pairs of transistors on what looks like the input?

Yeah never seen anything like that before, at first I thought it was loads of small silicon RF stages paired up loads but then I saw the audio going into that side and the RF coming out of the other side. Please explain??

I've seen something before with three stages to make a ring oscillator. Maybe it's that?

It's a RVR,Elenos oscillator design using 10 varicaps and a piece of ptfe coax as a resonator
A realy good design only to mutch parts for pirate use
I have made a few designs with this oscillator and was working super
My new 15W driverboard is using this idea and using 4 varicaps and a normal coil the rest like RVR
The proto of this board is now ready and making the first batch now
So tech it's almost ready :) after more then a year

Rf-Head nailed it. That is famous italian design. Must say that I use it very often. These are varicaps followed by jfet (2x) then BFRs for amplification. Coax resonator works much better than standard coil in this setup.

Nice neat work mrcuti!!
Did you etch the PCBs and assemble them from scratch?

the vco design is PKBee. I put in Anorak Corner. It can be improved or changed.

The RDS is an old RDS designed by N years and years ago. It was one of the first RDS circuits available. It uses an oscillator can and two pic chips, ive got one here :-)

am interested in seeing that design for that rds encoder if you have it at hand and willing to share.

Hi Darren, If you are intrested to build your own RDS encoder I have a drawing of a fully functioning encoder which I found online, many years ago. It was called "MyDRS 876" and was developed by a guy from France. Unfortunately, it is not his website or any trace of whether he or any pictures of the encoder. But I was smart to save down all the documentation on the decoder and software. Has made a new double-sided circuit boards and it has worked great for years now. Let me now if you are intrested. :tup

it's a 700W rig and the case is from hammond but you need to make the fan holes your self

cheers RF.. yeah i figured you had to make the holes yourself, i was hoping that somewhere was selling them as standard..

Any idea of the particular size etc?

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: never mind.. im guessing its this one.. http://www.hammondmfg.com/dwg21.htm
