Seems to be a strange problem with this station today. The station signal appeared to be very weak, driving round, can hardly pick them up in their area. Drove past their site, signal comes in good, get about 500m away and it starts to break up again. Almost like the rig is putting out a few mW. Just got in from work, had a look at Sony tuner, seems the signal is all good (47-48dB) yet can hardly pick them up?
How is it that the signal can be so good, yet can only pick them up perfect within 100m of site?

Re: Select
I'm thinking that the rig had shut down the power to the PA due to this heat as you drove past, but as you got back home it was back up and running again.

Re: Select
Signal aint great at all in South East London, very faint. Could be a heat related problem, as it occurred this morning.
Re: Select
Yes, always a possibility. I did wonder if someone was white noising them? That's exactly what it sounds like now at home. Lots of static noise on 99.3, I can hear Select in the background but not good at all. Nothing like usual.

Think the heat is going to cause a lot of mayhem for stations that are microwave linking.
Maybe Band 1 ain't so bad after all lol

Re: Select
Raw 87.5 are currently having similar problems with their rig switching from full down to half of its power.
Re: Select
Funny you say that, there is a station I noticed recently that appeared to be using band 1 (which surprised me), all is good with them today! lol However there appeared to be some link drifting problems a week or so ago which may of been heat caused...SEKING wrote:Think the heat is going to cause a lot of mayhem for stations that are microwave linking.

TBH both systems suck... (unless your using digi tracking)

Re: Select
Many band I boxes are still VFO, especially on the RX side. So they are very prone to detuning with a bit of heat.
Re: Select
Getting Raw about 16-17dB currently, thats about their usual signal from where I am. Its weak but very listenable, sounds much clearer than Select right now!teckniqs wrote:Raw 87.5 are currently having similar problems with their rig switching from full down to half of its power.

Re: Select
Yes, have seen this problem. Had a mate that said his band 1 link kept drifting, when I looked at his rig the pa was getting so hot it was making the local oscillator vco drift in the band 1 rx. I took it to my mate whos an electronics engineer, he pll'd it and was sortedteckniqs wrote:Many band I boxes are still VFO, especially on the RX side. Re: Select
I have no idea what stations are using it but can tell you it is great, have experimented with it. Huge temperature shifts causing gunn to drift are 'followed' by receiver... The same temperature shift on a standard gunn/ satcan receiver (no tracking), link is totally knocked out and all can be heard is static..SEKING wrote:Digi Tracking, who's using that & is it any good........s2000 wrote:Funny you say that, there is a station I noticed recently that appeared to be using band 1 (which surprised me), all is good with them today! lol However there appeared to be some link drifting problems a week or so ago which may of been heat caused...SEKING wrote:Think the heat is going to cause a lot of mayhem for stations that are microwave linking.
