radio stoke playing reggae last week sounded like a pirate

Post by radionortheast » Thu Dec 18, 2025 3:07 pm

anyone else have false alarms like this, I though I was hearing a pirate :?

I suppose the signal might be abit ropey on a bbc local radio station traveling a long distance, might be playing something you’d not normally hear. It was 2021 when I last heard pirate something with regular schedule, it doesn't seem they will come back, I had to go over to the online music box to listen to it.

Afew months ago I thought I was hearing something interesting down on 88.2, playing brit pop, signal was there for a while stereo sign there but not overly strong, then you could tell this was in a car tx, you got that tell tail fluttering. I think what made me think it was something albert’s talked about something been set up in the pennines in the past, they’ll probably say nothing is there, I did think it was albert's station for a while. :D

I feel for you NE.. beyond the big smoke's pirates are few and far between even in the South with fairly populated small towns. Raw FM 87.5 was a countryside station over the west of Lond went west into the posh zones of Hampshire and so on for maybe 60miles, I think that frequency and a good site, maybe on their mates castle or stately home or maybe they had a big flag mast on their mates hunting lodge ? Got them out well that way. They are probably all living in 4 bedroom detached house in Windsor now, 2 kids and driving a nice sleek Merc.
The dial is Glowing 88-108 , spin the wheel to light those Red LEDs , see signal needle rise.

maybe rich footballers in white trainers in the land of holly willoughby but probably not
A flagpole would be left well alone, suppose there might be a Tudor cottage in the cotswolds out on its own, you could put an aerial up, the council wouldn’t know, like the avenngers or something. I suppose fm transmission not something thats out of the ordinary if its something you’ve always done, to others outside of normal most people get their tv/radio through streaming.

it was on raw I heard shoutouts to glastonbury crew, I suppose it was maybe just people there, think raw and uk’s finest have been around recently, think their more confined. I think there was one on 107.5, only had 1 station on across the country we have tmcr now, its not so clear, another frequency gone. uk’s finest remember reading in the past some were it said it was not a london station, it was outside of it, to everyone else further away it was.
I think the wikend put txers that are further away, don’t think they wanted to put any in the far north, noone wants to get their dunks/trainers wet in a quagmire :D

Yeah on the bandscan video I was watching from London it was hard to tell, i’m sure some of them were community stations. I did think I was hearing something afew months back it turned out to heritage fm it was unusual frequency, years ago it was home to vibes fm, it was due to some tropo.
Sometimes you hear smooth/today fm on 101.4, think something is there, once though I was hearing a new pirate on 94, turned out to radio na g decided to start playing some dance appeared during a lift.

I do get the impression I might be the only one here tuning about over fm on a daily basis, I was just going to say within a 50 mile radius, it does feel that way, there maybe people tuning about that are within a 25 mile radius I doubt they do it everyday. It maybe only 2nd down on the list putting a transmission out would be the rarest I suppose
