Winter solstice E layer skip VHF/FM reminder

Post by FMEnjoyer » Fri Dec 19, 2025 7:10 pm

Just so you all know there is often a chance to hear some FM stations from overseas in Europe bouncing over during the next 2 weeks or so. For relatively poorly understood reasons there is a bit of a second peak mid winter on the E layer.

I often recall hearing Danish stations, though of course any country within 1000 miles or so can pop up.

Foggy days will also get some DX from Belgium and France and Netherlands depending on where you are.

Worth having a dial and an antenna at the ready chaps and chapesses.

I will test my radio frequently and report anything on the INTL forum here.

Good luck listening out.
The dial is Glowing 88-108 , spin the wheel to light those Red LEDs , see signal needle rise.
