Glasgow - Are there still any pirates there?

Post by teckniqs » Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:25 am

Don't ever hear about stations from there any more, used to be a bit of a pirate scene there but you never hear of any stations there any more? For some reason 100.8 and 102.1 used to be very popular choices around there but I've not seen or heard of anything for yonks.

The Glasgow airwaves are still active with pirate radio station's. They all tend to operate on 102.1MHz Just Individuals (Diehards).
No more real pirate radio stations on the air anymore!. The days of Radio K-OSS and Pure FM are long gone for good!. :rip

Thanks for the update. Yes it appears 102.1 has been a very long running and popular choice throughout many years.

...Think I saw something somewhere about a station in Glas called Club FM 102.1, is that the station which still comes on there or is that just yet another one what's long-gone?

Club FM were on last month broadcasting with a 300 watt (Chinese TX) from the Gleniffer Braes in Paisley transmitting from a camper van. The video is on there Tik Tok page!. I haven't heard them on the radio since. I believe they have a stream running 24/.7 but that's been stopped now as I've just checked. We have another pirate radio station going by the name of 'Hurricane FM' and uses the same frequency (102.1) Signal is not very strong!. They only appear on air occasionally! Also we have 'The Pulse FM Network' (Haven't been heard for over a month!). As I said on my previous post the days of Pure And K-OSS are over. "No more serious Pirate stations anymore!" By that I mean; A radio station that is organised and is constantly on the air with 5 or more DJ's. I remember a radio station in Glasgow that intended to run 24/7 and only lasted 3 days. They got taken off air by the DTI of course. I think they were interfering with the Glasgow taxi radios. They had broadcasted on 87.9MHz and were using a link. The TX was placed in a tower block in the city. I heard back then that the station was run by gangsters from America. I believe they returned on the air a month after but the signal wasn't the same as I could no longer hear them where I lived at the time.
