107.9 - Unid

Anyone picking up the carrier on 107.9? Occasionally plays something, but otherwise mostly silent and occasionally goes off air.

No RDS and can hear some hum in the background.

I'm guessing it's a cheapo Chinese rig.

It's on air now but silent.

What area are you hearing this? ....Just a weak 108.0 here on south coast Worthing but nothing on 107.9 with beam antenna on chimney facing north towards London.

Eastern side of Berkshire, not far from Heathrow airport. I reckon it might be something very local perhaps. I wonder if anyone in Windsor/Maidenhead can hear anything?

It's powered up at the moment, no audio.

Speaking of 108, that went quiet for a little while and it looks like they are back again.

It doesn't seem to wipe it out, I could still tune into Radio Jackie despite 107.9.

The unid signal on 107.9 does seem to over deviate and distort too. The way it went off air a few hours ago was interesting too. It wasn't a sudden disappearance, it gradually reduced power until it went to zero. Quite strange.

I also heard notifications going out on air on it that sounded like the ones I hear on my eBay app, and I could also hear 4G mobile signal noises too. I began to wonder if this is some kid playing around with a cheap Chinese rig and using bluetooth from his phone or something. I occasionally heard some rap type of music being played which I think was being streamed from the internet.

I'd say this has been going on for over a week now, it was only recently I managed to catch some audio on it.

Probably just someone with an iTrip at home unless you can hear it over a wide area driving around?
....I regularly hear someone with one playing foreign music on 87.5 during the late night / early hours around here

That's going to be the next thing to try, a drive around to get a better idea of how far the signal is getting out.

I did a drive around and it was a very localised signal to 2-3 houses. Given the phone notifications sounds etc that I heard over it before, it appeared to be a FM radio link to a phone. They are quite old hat now as the wireless connection for that kind of purpose tends to be bluetooth these days. Since some work had finished at a nearby house (where I reckon it was coming from) it hasn't reappeared since.

I thought so as no way would a station succeed on 107.9 in Windsor
