There was a same kind of thing coming in very strong in Nelson on 108.0FM all around my area but not been hearing it for a few months...g33ky wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 6:09 pm Been hearing an Indo-Pakistani station on 87.7 in the east of the city recently playing non-stop Indian and Pakistani-esque music. There is a very faint signal on 87.7 at my home but its too weak to hear what it is, much clearer on the other side of the Mersey. Definitely not Radio Waves.

Re: Merseyside
Dance music tonight on 87.5. No RDS or ID, coming in reasonably well at my QTH.
Playing more northern England varieties of Dance (think Clubland CDs).
Big ups to whoever put this on!

Turns out this is Elite FM, RDS locked on instantly in the car but not my SDR, odd.
Very good signal here.

Re: Merseyside
Very odd choice of music for a Ramadan station, sounded like some Bollywood-type stuff. Maybe the lyrics were deep religious stuff, what do I know .

Re: Merseyside
Heard them ID as "Ramadan Radio Stoke" and they were listed on the ofcom RSL list. When I heard them they were playing the more usual sermon type stuff and traditional music.
Although now I think of it I did hear another station breaking through on the same frequency also playing Indian/Pakistani sounding music and just figured it was another RSL. But I guess it could be a pirate?

I haven't heard this at all. I'll keep checking 87.5 for that both at home and when I'm out and about.
Radio Waves was back on 87.5 yesterday late afternoon/early evening for a few hours with the usual. I haven't heard them since March and they've been a lot less frequent this year compared to the last couple of years, unless I'm just missing them.
108 is still churning out the same distorted speech radio (or YouTube, or whatever). This one really does baffle me - the audio is so loud that it's entirely unlistenable and has been most of the time since I first picked it up, again, a couple of years ago. I'd love to know what that was all about!

If Elite FM is on it will be the weekend evenings, 7-9ish PM. Just tests for now..Matt wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:05 pmI haven't heard this at all. I'll keep checking 87.5 for that both at home and when I'm out and about.

With regards to 108 I drive past the area its strongest in every morning and its silent, so its definitely not some forgotten PC/tablet endlessly streaming or whatever. Poor person who owns that transmitter must think about politics 24/7 as that's all I've ever heard on it, never any music or whatever.
Surprising that the 'com hasn't taken a look at it given how audible it can be not far from the airport and right next to the ATC band. Certainly not audible at the airport but some planes overhead must be able to hear it circling around. It's a Chinese box too, probably sprogging all over the place.

Re: Merseyside
It's been a quiet few weeks. I still haven't heard anything on 87.5 but 87.7 was back again for a short while earlier today, doing its usual thing, which today included some traditional Irish songs (or something like that anyway) before going into Wax - Bridge to Your Heart.
I very briefly caught something on 108 earlier, but I wonder if it might have been someone's car. I was driving (and not near where the other 108 thing with the distorted speech is) and when I tuned to 108 it sounded like a carrier. Very briefly, some speech faded in after a minute or two. It was an American woman talking about mice, and decent audio. It then faded out. The carrier sound continued for a few minutes and then faded to the usual hiss.

Re: Merseyside
There certainly can be!
This bank holiday weekend has been a surprise though - not a thing on FM (although admittedly I wasn't around today during the times that 87.7 is sometimes on, and I haven't been anywhere near that thing on 108).
No concept/central who often put in an appearance on bank holidays, no third-party relays of a long-running station which itself is only online these days, no Radio Waves. Very quiet indeed!

It looks like there might be an RSL starting on 87.7. There's been non-stop music this afternoon and evening with an RDS of VCR FM. There's nothing on the Ofcom site, although there's been a previous RSL from Belle Vale called Valley Community Radio, so my guess is that's what it is and it'll launch tomorrow.

Just heard an announcement between the songs. It's actually Vibe Community Radio, broadcasting for just 5 days from Monday to Friday this week, from Picton Road.Matt wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 9:29 pm It looks like there might be an RSL starting on 87.7. I've never seen the Ofcom pages for RSLs being up to date. Only really when Ramadan is on is there any real updates.Matt wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 10:14 pmJust heard an announcement between the songs. I wonder what the antenna setup for this RSL is looking like. Driving through the city centre outskirts even when stationary the signal was fading in and out.

Yeah they are useless (can't get the staff), last time I checked the latest 'Current RSL Licencees' list it was from about 10 years ago.g33ky wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 6:41 pm

....Usually they tend to use Jaybeam Amphenol 7050 folded dipole.
