nonstop 90s have moved off 88.1 and are now only useing 107.1. they broadcasted on 88.1, with 107.1 being a relay.
rince radio have now moved from 94.3 to 88.1.

Going back just few years it was quite rare to see anyone pushing out more than 100-150w.
Back in the late 70s and early 80s, when there were far fewer stations on the band, and the noise floor was much lower than it is today, we used to cover much of London from a good site with as little as 50 Watts in mono.

My most successful signal in those days was 300 Watts into a big colinear up a tall(ish) hill in South London. That covered a good part of the South East of England in mono and most of London itself in good stereo. The ERP was close to 1kW! We received a cassette tape, recorded on a radio / cassette portable - in stereo - from Hamburg! Granted that was during the Summer "lift" season, but it's still impressive!

A few years later, Megawatt Miles J ran close to a Megawatt ERP on a couple of his County Monaghan "border blasters" pointed at the north of Ireland, with studios in Belfast! It's possible that these were the most powerful FM pirates ever..... One of them was perfectly audible on my car radio driving up the West Coast of Scotland!

Stephen M and I ran 120 Watts stereo from a tree site near a village called "Mountain" in Yorkshire. That went a huge distance, but always got lost as you went into the shadow of the valleys. If you were at or close to the top of a hill, it could be heard 100 miles away!

Remember - FM VHF signals always go to the horizon - the carrier strength just determines the amount of noise you're going to get there. A 1 Watt signal goes just as far as a 10000 W signal. It's just that the 1 Watt signal will be lost in the noise at much distance, whereas the 10kW will crush the noise for a good long way.

That's why people who don't know any better ask "what's the range of your station?" You can quite legitimately say "to the horizon"!

Probably no clubbing gigs of interest on at the minute that's why.

Nothing new here not all ready contained in the thread. Have sent a pm to update the opening post though and will get on top of doing so when there are changes needed. It's easier for everyone to referr to it.

There's something pops up some evenings and most weekends on ~105MHz in Mayo. It's a good signal around Castlebar, Westport and along the coast to Louisbergh. It's sometimes stereo too, but no RDS.
