108 - heard on M53.

Post by g33ky » Sat Apr 25, 2020 9:08 am

Coming home on the M53 junction 7 heard a station on 108. Ragtime-y music, don't think it was MAR. Heard no idents and signal was gone by the time I reached junction 5. Anyone know anything? Must be low-power.

Their lucky to beable to use 108, it gets jammed by sangam here, 87.5 and 108 were always common frequencies for in car mp3 transmitters.

Definitely not an in-car TX as I've seen it multiple times in the same place with the same sort of music on different days, plus I receive it for a whole junction. Haven't seen any reports of it online - I'll take a wander in-person once the lockdown is over to see if I can find a general area for it.

Found the station - turns out it's a guy broadcasting his own music to his whole house and didn't realise how far it was going! It's just a standard Chinese rig with a standard antenna and he was completely surprised to hear it actually covered the entire village. What a story.

7w from the bottom room goes about 2 miles for me but its very hissy 15 w is a little better and 30w about 9.5 miles from my loft.
I have to pick the correct dial or stations it goes over some times always check when a few houses away. :(

I'm guessing he was running the default settings which is 15w for the rig. Considering it has to push through multiple rows of housing and trees it's impressive it reached the whole village and the M53 just from the guy's living room. He clearly wasn't aware of the amount of power (and the fact that it's deviating into the aircraft band with an airport in line of sight ) but I think this station will be on reduced power now that I've let him know. Aren't scousers friendly :tup.

What a strange story, but a really good ending.. Yep, scousers lovely just like Yorkies 👍 the only time i didn't like Liverpool was when they knocked Wednesday out of the milk cup quarter final in 1982 or 1983
