The only pirate I've ever known about from Newcastle was the fictional one they had on BBC's Byker Grove about 1993 or so. :geek:

There used to be something up around Alnwick (about 20 years ago) and there was definitely a 1980s pirate from Castle Leazes - I built them a couple of rigs. I'm not aware of anything more recent.

I posted earlier this year about After Dark FM (Sunderland) who were broadcasting from a bedroom in Ford Estate, Sunderland and were almost immediately busted.

They were talking about going legit, possibly in the Durham City area... haven't heard anything recently about that.

Cant recall anything else from the North East...

I've been trying to remember the name of the Newcastle station I supplied a couple of rigs for. They were normal 40 Watt PLL things in diecast boxes with a power supply in a separate box. As far as I know, they were fed from a tape recorder and broadcast for a few hours each weekday evening. I think that it might have been a student-run thing. As far as I'm aware, they were on for quite a while.

I think there was something called infinity but it never got off the ground, it was a really long time ago, there was something in Doncaster with the name that was on air briefly around the same time. I'm pretty sure he tried to sell his transmitter to someone up there, so he wasn't into broadcasting. ;)

Jduk I bet you have your transmitter on all the time now :tup

5/8 wave aren't exactly brilliant a . 64 wave is far better than the 5/8 wave. 1/2 wave vertical is what is best to go all the way round in a doughnut shape.

Never heard of that, plus a 5/8 wave is 0.625
