Buzz FM on 1494kHz AM Medium Wave 90's Dance Pirate

Post by tokingmenace » Fri Aug 06, 2021 11:12 pm

Stumbled on this tonight, 1494Khz AM. Took a while to get the id, looks like it's a 90's Dance/Trance Pirate making a return
on Medium Wave ?? or someone is kindly relaying them. :smoke

RX via online SDR in Scotland and WSM. :tup

There's a lot appearing on Medium Wave. OFCOM don't seem to be interested in enforcing MW, so don't cause interference, and you should be OK.

Because it’s shit. I’d rather listen to a 78rpm.

Would prefer mono dab quality because the nearest one to me now is on 648 and caroline but its not great quality.

Medium Wave - done right - can sound superb! There's a huge number of small scale AM stations in the Netherlands (licences are easily available and cheap). Many of the better ones sound a lot better than many of the London FM idiots.

No way. I can’t see that. Also no one is listening to MW. I never even listened to MW in the 90s. That’s why it’s so cheap, there’s no audience.

I would possibly put a MW transmitter on if it blasted out to other country’s to try and bring interest to the online stream, but I’d never do anything serious with it and keep it on 24/7.

Medium wave (pirate) is making a small comeback in Ireland mainly playing niche genres such as 70/80s music and Irish music/country which are usually lost in the licenced stations (who all play safe with the usual 300 songs playlisted and robo presenters). There are also some Irish stations on short wave.

Medium Wave is still big business in many parts of the world. Done right, it's great!
