What's been happening on 108 over your way? Over here, it's that same station that's pumping out the dramas, documentaries but I'm guessing you've heard something else.
I've had a blank carrier on 108 for about a week now but it doesn't seem to be an in-car TX as my car has locked onto it multiple times while driving around. I first heard something on 108 in Ellesmere Port and it was playing some very faint pop music with a slight hum to it, I thought it may have been my car picking up another station but I did a scan of the band and the same music wasn't playing on any other station. I'm not sure if the station I heard in Ellesmere Port and this blank carrier at my home are the same but there's definitely some odd stuff on 108 on the Wirral.

In non-pirate news, KCC Live's TX on 99.8 is pretty broken, bad humming on the audio sounds like an unplugged audio cable.

Unfortunately, I was very unlucky and only managed to catch the second half of the ID as I was at the same time monitoring 108Mhz as I've had some odd signals on this throughout the day. I cut back to 87.7 mid-way through the ID so all I got was "on 87.7 FM, hope you enjoyed the show!" in a high-pitched chipmunk-like voice, then the TX turned off about 10 minutes later after some closedown music. Very annoyed at myself now for missing that ID as this station is annoying to catch .
It was back on yesterday - this is the first time I've heard it for more than a month. And... there were IDs again!

I only caught the last 40 minutes or so of the broadcast, but the IDs were:

"Radio Waves playing non-stop music on 87.7FM" in a pitched-up voice and "This is radio waves on 87.7" in a pitched-down voice.

So, we can finally put a name to this mysterious station!

Nice find! I was looking for it multiple times this weekend but couldn't find it, schedule is really erratic.
Still doesn't answer many questions about the station, the name doesn't help as any searches just yield back the expected scientific definitions for "radio waves". Must just be a personal project by some hobbyist broadcasting to whoever tunes in I guess. Still though, glad we have some resolve for this station :tup.

It was a fan of the perfectly legal internet station relaying it and nothing to do with them, obviously! ;)

Another interesting development on 87.7. On Saturday evening there was an announcement between two of the "Radio Waves" jingles. It was a computer generated female voice. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something along the lines of "For the rest of this broadcast on Radio Waves on 87.7 there will be non stop music". But it was a good couple of sentences and not just a jingle.

The streaming link for base fm shows the freq as 100.00 this isn’t correct any more is it ? I heard a dead carrier on 101.4 (isn’t that then? Or is that community station still on).

I used to get base fm pretty well where I am at n the Cheshire / Mersey side border, the last time I heard music was back when it was on 87.*

I’ve heard nothing else on my scans , incl 87.7, 87.5 which I just don’t seem to get or catch anymore (unless I’m in the car), really makes me wonder if my antenna is working properly (then again it’s not really a wide band antenna), my old antenna used to get 87.7 and 87.5 which is why I’m wondering if something is wrong (or if it’s just that different locations have been used since).

We really need some pirate coming from a good location in Oldham or somewhere that covers Manchester to Liverpool (it’s a shame all the big powerful stations of the early 90s have all gone.). , I guess stations have moved online and/or done have turned into community stations

I’m babbling now so will shut up 🤫

Base FM were on 100.0 for a bit then went quiet until their recent return on 101.4. They were on recently as I heard them via tropo, not sure what that blank carrier was.

My antenna in my car seems to break in the winter, even the local stations from Allerton Park come in a bit fuzzy. Haven't heard anything on 87.5/7 etc for a while now, 105 has been quiet since MAR got raided not long ago.

Saying that though, when I was driving around Wallasey my radio did pick something up on 105, wasn't strong by any means but must have been fairly close due to said crap antenna. I caught the end of one song (classic rock kinda song) before the TX turned off, the song sounded like something that MAR would play, makes me wonder if they're doing tests.

MAR are currently on 87.5, but much lower power than they were before. No sign of 105.

It's been a busy week (relatively speaking).

87.7 was on bank holiday Monday, new year's eve and new year's day. Don't think I've ever heard them on more that twice in a week before. It's just a few hours each time, with the usual idents and pre-recorded continuity. Central/Concept was on 100.8 on bank holiday Monday. I heard what was definitely an archive show early afternoon (with, I think, Jim Brown, Jim Lowe and Tom Webb, although I may be mistaken as I didn't hear full names in the time I was listening). Not sure whether what I heard later (Dr TK's Scouse House Shout Out Show) was live or archive and didn't listen for long enough to find out.

Oh tell a lie, I can just about get something bubbling in the background noise when in the house - on 87.5 and I think 87.7 too, but it could be done skip conditions I guess (don’t think so tho )

I get 87.5 better in the car, once I drive out into the open.,

MAR (87.5) and Concept (100.8) were all I got during my drive round the Wirral. MAR are not getting out as far as previously, but Concept on 100.8 has a good signal all around.

87.5-87.8 (Heart Wrexham is on 88)
88.2-88.4 (BBC R2 Winter Hill is on 88.6)
89.1 (squeezed in-between BBC R2 Llangollen and Holme Moss)
89.5-90.6 (BBC R2 Llandodna is audible on 89.8 especially on North Wirral and I would imagine Sefton way, plus BBC R3 Winter Hill on 90.8)
91.3 (squeezed in-between BBC R Wales Llangollen and BBC R3 Holme Moss)
91.7-92.1 (BBC R3 Llandodna is audible on 92.0 (fun fact, this is actually receivable in the Birkenhead tunnel, broken leaky feeder configuration?), Halton CR is on 92.3, BBC Leeds is audible here on 92.4 with a good enough receiver).
92.6-92.8 (BBC R4 Winter Hill is on 93.0)
93.5 (squeezed in-between R4 Llangollen and Holme Moss)
93.9-94.0 (BBC R Cymru Llandodna is audible on 94.2)
94.4 (BBC Stoke on 94.6, BBC R Wales Llandodna on 94.8)
95-96.4 is pretty crowded with BBC Locals including BBC R Manchester, R Wales, R Leeds, R Merseyside, R Shropshire. 96.2 is clear for me.
96.9 (R City on 96.7, Capital Wirral on 97.1, you can squeeze in-between here if you wanted but given that these two love their monopoly I'd avoid it)
97.6-98 (BBC R1 Winter Hill is on 98.2)
98.7 (squeezed in-between R1 Llangollen and Holme Moss)
99.2 (R1 Llandodna audible on 99.4)
99.6 (KCC Live on 99.8)
100.6-100.9 (Smooth is on 100.4, Classic on 101.1)
101.3-101.4 (Classic FM Llandodna is audible on 101.6)
101.8 (Classic FM Morecambe Bay is often audible on this frequency during good conditions)
102.2 (Capital Manc on 102, GHR St Helens 102.4)
102.8 (Canalside Radio can be heard on here during good conditions)
103-104.7 is very busy with mostly commercial stations
105.1-105.2 (MAR did use 105 but GHR Stockport is just 100khz down on 104.9)
105.6/105.7 would be free if GHR on 105.9 didn't take the piss with their deviation and regularly go over 250khz.
106.5 (Dee on 106.3, LCR on 106.7)
107.4 (Capital on 107.6)

And thats about it. Not too bad in the lower parts of the band but >100Mhz is pretty crowded.

Been hearing an Indo-Pakistani station on 87.7 in the east of the city recently playing non-stop Indian and Pakistani-esque music. There is a very faint signal on 87.7 at my home but its too weak to hear what it is, much clearer on the other side of the Mersey. Definitely not Radio Waves.
