On now I think. Blast from the past... last heard 6 years ago. Is this reappearance old news or have I got lucky and stumbled on them just returning ? Decent signal and mod...I like their style. Jingles have an original flavour.

Nice to hear them on.

Just shouted me, told me to large up my status, seems like a decent presenter/MC.

I'm afraid the previous poster is right mate - you need to turn down the bass a bit, might be worth having a look at your audio settings as a whole.

Wow, you have got two sound engineers and your audio that bad. You are deviating at 480k, the limit is 75k. :tup
Scooby-dooless!

Perhaps they should stop smoking that stuff :smoke and get rid of the wild over-modulation. It doesn't seem to have any kind of limiter, so it's splattering a couple of adjacent frequencies. This much over-deviation will make it un-listenable, since it will be so badly distorted on most receivers. :ugeek:

If you have got "the best processing tools", you don't have anyone who knows how to use them! Get a proper mod meter. You can pick up a recently calibrated, secondhand Marconi 2305 for about £200. This even gives you a demodulated output and mine has an additional 1U module that I built, added to the top with an RDS / RDBS decoder and display.

Over-deviation will get you raided quickly because of the interference complaints you'll get.

It sounds great, although I don’t know how you manage to get so much bass without distorting. Is it the bass that is too loud or too loud overall ?

In the past I’ve found that it will sound great when the signals strong, but when weak it will just distort. Fresh sounds is massively over modding.

It's still overmod! Turn it down a bit and sort out a good limiter. You can knock up a reasonable one for £20 (if you DON'T shop at Maplin - £45 if you do!).

we use limiters as well as other stuff so all it can be is certain djs pushing the levels when management is not around or the quality of tracks they are using to mix

But I thought the reason you use limiters was to compress the audio so you shouldn't be having that problem

I was listening Tuesday 2-3 and it sounded fine. Not sure who was on the decks, but it sounded mad!

Any compressor and/or limiter is going to struggle and sound crap if the level into said device is significantly higher than the threshold, which is probably the case. There's not a lot you can do for DJs that think they're mixing on a Christmas tree.

There's a lot you can do to compensate for incompetent DJs - easiest is to fire them, of course, but the best thing is to give them nice big PPMs in front of them. Proper PPMs aren't cheap, but can easily be emulated with a quad op-amp and an LM3915 logarithmic bargraph driver:
I used a big chain of 8mm LEDs that were really bright. The lowest two were blue - too quiet, turn it up - and the next ones were green. The third from top was orange, and the top two were red. If the top red LED lit up, an extra stage of limiting was kicked into action in the mixer output, dipping the level by 6dB as well. This meant that the idiots who tried to turn everything up to 11 found that they actually sounded quieter on the air! They soon learned that music should get the orange LED blinking and speech peaks would (just) light the lower red LED. Their levels stopped being a problem. All that remained then was to get their presentational skills up to the rest of us.....
