Rude 88.6 FM Appreciation

Post by Lee2310 » Thu Nov 25, 2021 10:03 pm

Wicked pirate since the 104.3 days
Back on FM Dial now on 88.6

Was originally billed as a special tribute weekend broadcast. But still on air live on the frequency
Great to hear them back. Signal clearer than they have ever been in Bromley - North Kent.

Can anyone confirm whether they are back for good?

They were on earlier this summer for a significant stretch of time, on the same frequency. I recorded a few of their sets at the time.

I don't live around London nowadays, but always seen a big fan of theirs.

Big fan of dark dnb and they have always been top notch with that. Had some amazing producers go through the station, like Dylan, Bkey, Facs, to name a few. Everyone goes on about Kool, but Rude is for the true headz...

OG Rude fm 88.2 was well before 104.3 when they spilt.

Lets get that straight, although both DnB, very different stations. I have massive respect for both.

My first squat rave was Ruud 104.3 at button factory in loughbourgh junction near brixton. Grimey as fuck and apparently transmitting live as well. Chillum (RIP) smashed the shit out of it, no lights just real hard dnb.

I think it's 88.2 crew that are back on 88.6 but I could be wrong. Either way big ups both rudes

Rude used to be on 104.3, until the management split and Chillem and Cyrus took the 104.3 dial, Fugee took the 'Rude' name and shifted down to 88.2. There are sets on YouTube ect with Chillem on Rude 104.3, before Awakening started. Think the split was about 97 / 98.

I was well connected to the squat scene, and I am still in contact with the sound system owners that Ruud Awakening used at the parties. I knew a lot of the crews back then. It is true that they used to broadcast from the parties at times.

Never went to that venue, but used to go to Dungeons, Leabridge Road for Ruud Awakening squat parties. Live broadcast for most of them (used to put the mini disk on to record when I left the house!) and as Chillem always smash it on his set as you mentioned!

Great times, always in the memories

Ruud awakening used to have a rig on a tree in Hampstead Heath. Legend has it - the DTI cut the tree down to get them off air. Lol. Both Rude and the split Ruud were banging stations Rude has stood the rest of time tho 104.3 then 88.2 after the split and more recently 88.6
There used to be a breakfast show on Rude called rude awakening lol maybe where the confusion comes from

I'd say this is 100% accurate, had a lot of time for Chillem, an initial encounter when my link was interfering with his led to some great chats.

That's cool. How did you initially meet Chillum? Did he some how contact you about the link, or was it by chance on a block or something?

Nice interview with Rude here. Includes the start as Raw FM and how they progressed and run things. I used to buy records from a shop which had a few of their deejays working in and frequenting. I remember them telling me about a block that was derelict and they were using the top floor as a studio. I'm not going to mention the location, but I used to drive past these giant blocks quite often at night and always looked up, looking for a light or something, with them locked on the radio. I'm guessing these are the same ones mentioned in the article 😁

Evil B. Brilliant MC on the station. Does anyone remember what year and for what reason they adopted a No MC policy?

End of the 90s I think. Definitely by 2000! :tup

I spoke to Fujee around 99/2000 and he told me he didn't want MC's chitter chatting all over the music, by then he had moved on to the more darker Renegade Hardware sort of sound and he didn't feel that MC's sounded right over that style of DnB.
