THC Radio - DAB

I noticed a new station appear 2 weeks ago on the London2 DAB Multiplex - THC Radio. Considering is costs around £10K a month to be on this Multiplex along side the likes of LBC, BBC London and Jazz Fm, I’m baffled as to how a station with hardly social media presence, presenters or adverts can be affording such a huge sum of money each month.

Coincidentally, I’ve noticed Kool Fm have suddenly bounced back after a long time off air, is that because this new THC station seems to be mainly drum and bass?

To all of you “experts” I wouldn’t be so quick to comment, when I inquired for costs on the London MUX recently it was circa £8-10k a month for rental, arquiva STL costs and VAT.

I agree I know that a station not for central London is paying about a 3rd of the mentioned figure above

On DAB you can broadcast at very low bit rates normally for talk radio.
Centreforce and other music stations use this for playing music and I'd imagine it's much cheaper this way.

The quote I was given was for 32kbps ACC+ stereo which is the lowest option. THC Radio are 32kbps.
The London MUX is big money whichever way you look at it.

So this THC station has been on for 5 months now and sounds like quite an amateur pirate set up… Even broadcasting One Nation tape packs sometimes when I’ve tuned in… Pretty mad to be honest considering who all their radio neighbours are on the London MUX… I also listened to them just recently from SW London practically all the way to Northampton… The London MUX that they are on BANGS out…

Its a huge shame as they played some good music. The show quality was a bit hit and miss. I used to try and listen in my wife's motor as she has DAB and I dont. I stream in my car and THC weren't on TuneIn which was a bit of a pain in the arse

Tune-In is a complete pain. They keep dropping stations from their menus, and if your station is on there, they frequently put it in the wrong classification. They seem to be getting ever more inept!

It also makes you listen to adverts before playing a station unless you subscribe and pay. Simple radio is what I use instead now but they still don't have every station

Don't get this issue on an Amazon Echo.
