I don't understand why some of you still compare flex and rinse these days I know I used to when flex first started but rinse is 9 years old now as a legal and never went as crap as flex did so quickly I was listening to a 103.6 flex tape yesterday it's only about 7 minutes worth and I was thinking is this even related to this garbage now and also a much more recent 997 from about 2013? madness?

You spot on its just this awful thing on 1014 that has become what it now or is because I asked the question first at the very beginning of the legal flex asking which one was better it soon became clear that out of all the legal ex pirates rinse was the best one

I think the difference between Flex and Rinse is that Rinse was always forward thinking and kept up with what is current which bodes well now with younger people listening, there is still some old skool on there like Uncle Dugs shows for example. Flex from what I gather kept to a certain format which isnt popular in the commercial scene so have decided to shake that off already and become what Kiss has already a pile of shit.
Rinse runs at a loss but at the same time have their finger on the pulse of whats new and breaking in the scenes, whereas Flex will chase the commercial audience in ways of staying 'current' so they make money.

As far as I'm aware flex fm charges all the djs around £500/£600 a year membership.
It's pretty much there only income so maybe there getting people to do bi weekly in order to get more money from other djs joining?

Flex has a fair few ads at the end of every show, multiple businesses paying for ad space. They do probably get more from memberships though as community radio can only get a certain percentage of money from ads.

Do not be fooled by the adverts it's minimal money.
No staff are paid everyone there works for fee don't be blinded by the expensive looking studio. Lol.
None of the bigger companies will buy flex fm all they will have to do is look at there books and they would run a mile!

There seems to be more and more Hip-Hop & RnB and less of the core music that was specified in their application (House, Drum & Bass, Garage, Grime, Dubstep)
