The Oxford station on 106.8 is Jack FM from Boars Hill. I used to live in Oxford.
famefm wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 2:48 am Yes in the high areas I can and some times a station from Oxford comes up on 106.8 also depends what way my ariel was faceing but I certainly can't get the little stations like Nomad 92.2 or the thing on 94.0 and Nomad is closer to me than rinse I suspect select will be stronger than the 2 I just mentioned very curious to see how far it gets out

bravedaveyboy wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 12:45 pm I used to pick up Rinse really well here in Bermondsey, SE1, when they were atop Maydew House, easily as well as I get Resonance from the Guys Hospital Tower. Rinse's service area changed completely when they moved to Peregrine House, it used to be "Bermondsey" but Ofcom changed that to "London City East". It's hardly audible in Bermondsey nowadays.
The Shard really screwed up my reception of 104.4 here. I was just outside of Rinse's FM coverage area when they were at Maydew House, so it was hissy stereo, now it's poor quality mono as if it's a station from out of town.

But I can get Rinse on DAB+ from Trial London which is all good.

Kool FM back on 94.6Fm. They were there this summer for a while too before disappointing for few months. Can't see how Select is gonna get out any decent signal at all on 94.4 if the Kool Powerhouse is right next door

That’s 2mhz apart, it would be fine. Also they only use about 50w now days.

Kool will need to fix their audio deviation, its excessive. +/- 150kHz

There's a silent carrier at 94.4 today. I suspect this is Countisbury House warming up for the arrival of Select. It's a very strong signal here in Bermondsey SE1.

They're testing with audio now. RDS is "Select", in stereo, with the scrolling text of "Test Transmission". Lovely strong signal here in Bermondsey SE1. I'm not surprised though as Countisbury House always used to come in loud and clear here when it was in use by pirates.

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm tuning in 4.7 miles due north of the tx site on Countisbury House, right by Tower Bridge, indoors on a portable radio with a telescopic antenna. Very strong and clear stereo signal here, plus the RDS comes up straight away with no hesitation. If it's non-directional then it must be covering pretty much the whole of South London with a really good signal.

I doubt any London based pirate will be able to use 94.3, 94.4, or 94.5 from now on, given the frankly amazing coverage Select appear to have with their new signal. It's really getting out there.

The Select Radio transmitter details have been released by Ofcom:

Site: Dulwich - Countisbury House
Frequency: 94.4
Site height: 106 metres
Aerial height: 30 meters
In-Use ERP (H): 12 watts
In-Use ERP (V): 50 watts
Licenced ERP (H): 50 watts
Licenced ERP (V): 50 watts

I live 4.7 miles due north of the site, as the crow flies, and it's a really strong signal here. It's amazing what can be achieved with 50 watts, when properly engineered.

Yes thanks for the information i was going to ask if you knew the strength of the 2 stations so select is double the power of Croydon fm and the station that is now crapital extra ( Choice fm ) used to get across most of London with only 36 Watts

Signal solid on the move across Catford and North Bromley. Starts to struggle a bit as soon as you go south and east of Bromley town centre. Was hoping it might get out to the M25.

Hearing something on 94.4 out here in Reading, under Radio 4 High Wycombe, but not sure if it's Select Radio testing, or something else. Just hearing some drum and bass, not parallel to Select''s webstream, which has been strictly house all this evening. Can anyone confirm whether the 94.4 tests are just a relay of the webstream, or separate music. No IDs heard yet, just D&B in the mix so far.

Yeah the test transmission is different to the webstream. It was drums when I had it on earlier too.

I think it's highly unlikely that select would be able to get as far as reading and the web version is on going with programming and I think when select fm goes live it will be all be the same as the stream online
