It is rinse I had the RDS and has been like this a few days now and I am sure they are in breach of their licence as they are supposed to provide a full time service not go on silent carrier like a pirate

There is a community station in Brighton on 101.4 which regularly just transmits 'dead air', was silent for almost a week not so long ago and regularly goes silent all day long.

....As far as I'm aware it is the part of the broadcasting law to have a 'silence detector' system installed with something like an MP3 player which automatically switches on when silence is detected.
But that doesn't seem to be the case...

So if they are not allowed to play why waste electric with the rig still switched on?

I'm not saying they're not allowed to play mate - could be lots of things; say an internet failure at the TX End and a site that you can't just turn up at. Stream is still up, still plugging 106.8 on the socials...

Apparently OFCOM needed feeding in respect of the licence, and now have been.

Rig is still off tho.

You'd have thought they could have at least got someone up there with an MP3 player by now...

I always thought that they should have a silence detector to ensure that one comes on automatically.

The story I heard was that they failed to pay some bills (big surprise), and the people they lease the transmitter from disconnected the mod.

It's a tactic I used to use - leave the carrier up with the RDS, and wait until the wankers pay their bill until you allow their audio through the rig. It's easy to do with RF links - you just have to be 6dB bigger into their link receiver.
