Is this any good?

Everything technical about radio can be discussed here, whether it's transmitting or receiving. Guides, charts, diagrams, etc. are all welcome.

A bit strange lineup. I suppose it has two impedance matching networks in the output (it looks like it) and this widens its flat output response. I can see there is LPF with ATC capacitors... but no harmonics at all is a bit impossible in practice. Do you know which is active device?

Gotta love how the video ends, "now I'm going to show you the harmonics products, let's go" and THE END, lol.

There's a lot of controversy about this guy's equipment but until anyone actually tests it and shows their results it will have to remain in question.....

There's only a Youtube vid, if you can't see it and you're on a PC/laptop maybe you need to update or install Flash Player??

It's radiomaster?! I didn't noticed that! He started using LPF?
@LDS: As I remember from the old forum, you can buy from him only if you are "serious professional". He doesn't want to sell his products to everyone who would like to buy it ;-)

Am not having much luck with getting a rig, that's why I wanted to ask you guys before I bought one.

My old builder has disappeared and I have been wanting to get back on for few months now, but not having any luck.

This guy is the only option I have right now, lol.

The amp is probably OK, it's the exciter he uses into his 350LE which raises a lot of eye brows.

If you look carfully at the video you will see that show the harminics products. (-70dB)

No, i dont see it... an guy sais that harmonics are absent... anyhow, broadcast standard is -55db or better, so -70db is no harmonics at all. Which is again impossible using filter which we saw on the board. Maybe possible, but only if you tune filter to one exact frequency...

The read-out changes depending on which different slug insert you have connected.

The meter can be used for many different ranges of power. The scale on the meter read out changes depending on the power rating of the slugs.

IIRC the slugs start around 100mW and go all the way up to 50kW.

Sticking to the question that was asked? To LDS! RADIOMASTER seems to be a genuine bloke and has the equipment so why not give his rigs a try? PS let us know if you get nicked by the old bill!! :D

No, you connect your dummy load to the RF output on the Thruline. The inserts are purely for the scale of power you use.

So if you have the 100mW slug inserted it means that you use the bottom scale of the meter and the maximum read out would be 100mW at the top of the scale on the meter. (same with 1w, 10w, 100w and so forth)
If you're using the 50kW slug you'd use the middle scale of the meter up to 50, same goes if you're using 5w/50w/500w etc.

The usual power meters like Avair and Daiwa for example use the same method but you just select the power range via a switch and then multiply the read out accordingly.

I have NEVER seen Bird without a scratch! And I saw a lot of them. Just to add to teckniqs, Bird is actually directional coupler. Meter box has transmission line inside. Slugs have other part, coupling line (wire), and trimmer pot which is set to give full deflection of scale when apropriate power is connected. There are manuals and schematics on the internet and it is very good to get to see how couplers are made. As I remember, sinus trouble was making some (stripline) for his rig before...

Can't go wrong with Bird.

My uncle used them when he worked for Police technical support in the late 90s, and even though he now does technical support for the Ministry of defence they also still use them.

I'm lumbered with an inferior Avair AV-200 cross needle meter.
