Trimmers
Hello Necks
Just for anyone that may be interested? CPC (A part of Farnell) stock 5-65pf trimmers for a reasonable price.
The strange thing is that Farnell have the same listing, But double the price?
I suspect that the reasoning for this is that CPC have stock to get rid of? Farnell does not?
Anyways, they are around £1.50 each which is still steep but they are manufactured by Vishay.

Re: Trimmers
I’ve seen this with a lot of products on CPC and Farnell.
For example, I recently bought a roll of multicore 60/40 solder from CPC for about £12 and the same roll was £20+ on Farnell’s website!

Yeh!! It dont make any sense?? The quality is still the same! Either way? I prefer to use a supplier whos standards are clear even if the cost is a bit higher!

Re: Trimmers
I've been avoiding the use of trimmers for many years. I've taken to tweaking crystals using "gimmick" capacitors - a couple of pieces of insulated stiff wire twisted together to form a capacitor of a few pF. I get the crystal pretty just above its marked frequency, using NPO ceramic capacitors, then provide the last pF with the "gimmick". You can get it dead right quite easily, by raising the frequency in (very) tiny steps by snipping the wire for exact adjustment!
"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"

Re: Trimmers
The twisted pair style cap is a neat trick Albert, I shall try that sometime.
I completely see what you are saying, Trimmers are pretty crude and there are much better solutions.
if it wasnt for the older style circuits that i use or repair? I doubt i would bother with Trimmers too!
