If you've got a steady signal when locked and a chaotic signal when unlocked, why not just pass it through a capacitor with a pull-down resistor after the capacitor? If the signal is jittering about, you'll see it at the output side of the capacitor. If it's steady-state, you'll see nothing at the output side of the capacitor - it will fall to 0V when locked. You just have to detect "non-zero" and you've got an un-locked detector!

Below is what I have been working with. It's not perfect and to be honest it's back to the drawing board as I'm still not happy with it. Obviously I'm omitting the LED for the base of another transistor to switch on the buffer stage in my design.

Thanks Albert, I will look into that way of doing things. Was the idea of keeping the PIC in an active loop not very wise? I was thinking it could do double duty?

Zozo wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:20 pm That's sort of what I was thinking. Perhaps I'm still somewhat obsessing with the idea of adding OLPD. I noticed the redundant register and thought why can't we keep the PIC active with another set of instructions to execute after the first set.

If the PIC see's a Square Wave on the "Test Pin" of the SAA1057 then pull "RA1" Low. If no signal then pull "RA1" High

The below image was incredible difficult to take. Firstly the PLL locks to quick, secondly trying to hold the camera at the same time as power cycling the exciter.

it's shows out of lock, and lock state of pin18.
Haha! Yes i know exactly what you would have seen on your scope!

The wave form is all over the gaff whenever the PLL makes the slightest correction! Far too sensitive!

Using capacitors does reduce the erratic behavior to a certain extent?

It makes me wonder if the problem lies elsewhere other than the TEST pin?

Theres not much chance of me modifying my PCB without making a mess!

But i may be able to mock up a simple switched load fed from the TEST pin?

I dunno if that would work? But it may give me some practical results to work with?

To late for that with mine. :D However the one PCB I do have built up is solely for test and development. My new MK2 boards will be here on Thursday now, which will work perfectly.(fingers crossed). No they will I'm sure, but will not have OLPD :(

Haha! Well it will be good to see your latest developments! :)

It certainly seems that the sudden surge due to the RF stages powering up is what puts the TEST pin out of whack!

The solution is out there? Just gotta keep searching!

Think I've read what Albert was saying correctly, so here's just a quick mock up of the proposed circuity. Obviously the component values will need to be experimented with.

That's pretty much what I was suggesting, though it might be worth driving a diode pump after your PNP transistor to give a nice solid result.

Hello Necks! :)

Heres a very basic look at the Sinus PLL!

Hello Radium :)

I would say 8 volts is pretty accurate for a peak power? However this value will differ depending on the load resistance that the voltmeter is presenting to the sample terminal?

From an RMS point of view, My power meter shows an output of just over 600mW which is usually the standard way of measuring RF power.

As this is a work in progress and subject to change, I have an updated schematic and will replace any previous versions!

The oscillator coils have been upgraded to a diameter of 5.5mm! Also changes to the regulator (U5) and varicap bias divider resistors! (R17 and R18)
