Veronica 5/8 wave antenna

Post by Barry06 » Sun Oct 18, 2020 6:59 pm

I have an old Veronica 5/8 wave antenna in my loft, this one - http://www.veronica-kits.co.uk/5-8ant.htm - looks like a modified CB antenna.

I also still have the frequency length chart.

I have never used the antenna. Got it many years ago and never got round to using it, but I’d like to give it a try over the dipole.

However, the three ground-plane radials are missing.

Do these ground plane radials matter?

Would the antenna perform equally well without them?

Cheers

Yes they matter. There only 30odd cm long on each radial should just cut them to match yours.

Yes, they are critical.

....Do NOT use it without them!

Thanks for the answers - very helpful.

I should be able to make replacements.

Aren't they bent on those, like little boomerangs?? (that's the best way I can describe them)

Yes, they have a kink in them.

They still exist on the CB antenna they were modified from, so may just purchase one and use them. -

Yup they do have bends on them to make them look different from a straight one but there same length regardless straight or kinked
