Now this really does take me back. First heard this on LWR. Living in east London I could barely hear them but soon realised by holding/earthing the twin cassette aerial I could get a better signal. Many a night I’d fall asleep in bed holding that aerial 😂

I cannot recall that track.. but do recall various bits of wire up on the wall and along the joined between wall and ceiling trying to get
a station even with a bit of crackle, mega precise dial tweaking.... trying to null out some adjacent station to get the weak one between was common. Very fond memories... of it all pre rave days and all the way through the rave stations.

and it was very cool when I got a tuner with a signal strength meter.. then I put a dipole in the room on coax and could move it al over the room ona long 5 bit of coax to get the stations and had to find a way of propping it up... ha ha. I lovedgaps between jingles and adds with of hiss and crackles impromtu pauses and then a jock urn the mic up slightly distorted and plays another track all a bit amateur but it had a nice warm real character.

couple of others I remember

original and best before the commercial version... when that came out you thought wow new sound great bass

another one, these tunes sounded so modern when they came out

also good bass tunes

I remember all of those I think, agree that they remind me of the pirates

Also remember a lot of white label stuff that never made it into mainstream charts , but we’re big in some clubs and with pirate djs who quite often were djs off air too. As a pirate mist record pr departments would still send you free records / white labels , limited run prints , new pop and if you sent reaction reports back quickly they often sent you another rare record back as a thank you ! Used to love those days when I came down to find out what the postman had brought with him today, he once snapped one in half though to make it fit through the letter box !!!!!!!!! Claimed back £19 from Royal Mail for that mess even though I didn’t actually lay for the record :). After that I made the postman slide it under the garage door, sometimes there were a lot of them all from different record companies. I was lucky maybe, as I was a mobile dj also wrote a music column in my local paper and of course a pirate station (as well as being on other peoples stations too),,fun times and some great records which I have all since given away to white label collectors, I only have cd”s left now as got rid of all vinyl (sadly as I miss playing records sometimes,,ceartaily the sound quality although cds sound pretty good too these days, and flac file format on pc”s are replacing most my cds. It did take a long time to copy my fave vinyl tracks and cds onto my pc”s but it was worth it to be able to get instant search results - and being able to stream from iPad or iPhone connected to the media of over Wi-Fi - I can even access the music collection from the other side of the world over the Internet , so glad I was alive in the 80s and now (wonder what else we have in store before I’m too old for this world). I probably should have created a separate thread for my mumbling but remembering what song were played triggered this off …. Good times.

A guy called Gerald - voodoo ray.

First heard this on Joy Radio 97.85 FM back in the day. A game changer of a tune for me personally
