Passion FM

Post by AdamBarrington » Tue Jan 12, 2021 6:13 pm

I was heavily involved with Passion FM back in the day. I used to run all there internet links and the auto DJ.
Anyone remember when AdamB was on all the time?
I used to do my shows from a studio 70 miles outside London.
We had a good system.
My link was over the internet to the main studio in London. Then another internet link to a pub. Then a microwave link from the pub to a midpoint.
Then a band one link from the midpoint to 2 fm transmitters one on 91.8 and one on 97.9
Quite a setup.

Passion FM was a top station! It was easily one of the best on in London during the late 90's period when it was just on 91.8 with DJ's like Mr G, Lingo, Kanga & a female DJ who used to be on on a Sunday evening (I think her name was Lady T but I'm not 100% on that, I think she did the show before or after Lingo played - Someone on here can correct me if I'm wrong). The signal during this period was a whopper too.

That story re: the set up for the 91.8/97.9 dual frequency thing sounds nuts as well! Nothing but props for that! Great station back in the day.

Used to enjoy Passion back in the day. It was one of my go-to stations when up around London.

I remember the move to dual-frequency use. Wasn't this because Hayes FM was on 91.8 and so there was a need for split frequency working for different parts of London? I seem to remember a number of stations were running split frequencies at the time. I think Point Blank were, at one time, on both 90.2 and 103.6, and Freeze FM were on both 92.7 and 99.5.
if it ain't broke, keep tweaking

Passion was indeed one of the best stations of its time. Was very good when it was mainly garage , with the likes of X Ray , Kanga, lady spirit , Blive to name a few , then I think it peaked around 2002-2007 with the multi genre, Philgood ram , just mick . Lady Duracell . Those where the days . So many good shows
