Where did Elite FM 104.7 come from?

Post by teckniqs » Thu Jan 10, 2019 6:29 pm

Where abouts did Elite FM 104.7 come from? Used to listen to this station around 1995, used to pick this up well around the Woolwich area but the signal was missing as you went further into London.

Elite was originally on 98.3

Was this the same as pulse 104.7 ? Listening to some old recordings, it sounds very Basildon, Southend based. Talking about soundzone and their venues in Southend.

I thought it has to be in Woolwich going by how extremely strong the signal was. But I was always under the impression it was from Essex, or maybe I am getting confused with an earlier Elite FM that was ran by the happy hard core DJ Vibes.

....I know Woolwich very well, what block was it on?

The only other station I know of that was coming from Woolwich at the time was Juice 94.0 from the (since refurbished) Hastings House that big dirty 24 storey block over by the (since demolished) old Cardwell estate.

It used to come from connaught estate (low i know) before i joined with them and their studio was on the 17th floor of nightingale their link got out better than the rig lol. I grew up on cardwell estate, sad i know but i survived, i used to set up juice with my bro for dean after a small war  i have great memories of that block (im so sad :geek: )......this lasted 3 weeks but was so worth it for the memories.......

Ha that's funny because I actually thought it was coming from the Walpole estate just round the corner from the old Connaught estate.

....I used to live in Gunner Lane over the army estates just a bit further up the Woolwich New Road and I knew connaught very well.

I did notice a dipole up on the small Nightingale Vale flats, facing east towards the main road in around 99/2000 or so. On the small low-rise brown brick blocks about 6 or so storeys high.

I wouldn't have even expected to see an aerial on such a low block when there are MUCH bigger ones around there and they were a lot easier to get into back then with the entrances all open and lifts immidately there to just get into.

Do you know what station this was? It wasn't on at the time (during the week, daytime), I even took my FB keys up for a nosey (no not to steal, not my style) but it was well hidden up there. Was it anything to do with you?

Yes i do believe that was us, it was probably one of the best installs we have done (apart from the height  ) as we ran dummy rigs and in them days that was the only place we could lock down and defend. ;)

Yeah I didn't think it was being used, I kept checking my radio after that to see if anything local came on but didn't ever hear anything coming from it.

Hi all,

I have not been on here for a long time. Elite FM 98.3 was from Pitsea in Basildon, I have some recordings posted above, since expired so here is a new link.

https://shorturl.at/evIQ9

The link also includes Force FM 106.4 Recordings
