radio nova 88.1fm broadcast from dublin. and could cover al ot of the west coast of the england and scotland on a clear day. of course this was when band 2 was much less congested less power was needed to broadcast to large areas.
Indeed, interestingly enough it's still a good, clear frequency for pirates in Dublin to this day.

Cork:
Hazard 106.8 appears to be off air.
Play FM's stream has been repeating the same part of an ID for at least the last day or so; however the FM has not been effected.

The 106.6FM thing in Laois is the same operation being picked up in Kildare. Did a bit of poking around and it seems XFM 87.6 was the same outfit. To conclude, there appears to only be one pirate operator in the midlands.

space fm 99.5 in dublin is now fresh fm. Hopefully they will launch with programming soon.
I don't know what the story is with connect, if they are coming back or what, i will leave them on the scan for now just incase they are coming back.

Are you sure they are the same station? Does the stream match the FM now?

It's the same station as space fm's facebook mentioned it was now calling itself fresh. I can't confirm if the stream matches the fm though as i'm never in dublin.

Galaxy FM Kildare have moved to 88.0, although I'm not sure why. They'll still need to move for temps on 88.1 which was a better frequency in any case. I did notice them battling it out with Kiss FM in South Dublin but surely moving down 0.1MHz won't make much of a difference?

The blank carrier on 107FM in Carlow has also disappeared.
Today, quite by accident, I discovered what may have been the source of this carrier. There's a church in Kilcullen which broadcasts mass on 107FM to the local area. These church TX's are not as uncommon as you'd think. There's one in Portlaoise on 106.5 (which I'd imagine clashes with Flirt at times!), Tramore on 105.3 and I've heard reports of one in North Kildare as well as some in Limerick, Kerry and Tipperary. The Portlaoise one gets out fairly well, I picked it up recently.

True Radio and Play FM are battling it out on 87.8 in East Cork. One of the two will have to either move or go off air.

This situation with Fresh/Space FM is getting a little ridiculous. We now know, noting the name change that occured on FM. Why they are playing the same hour-long playlist on a loop is beyond me, when they have a working stream which seems to, from the few times I've tuned in, have a more extensive playlist.

I agree. It doesn't make any sense really given they have been testing for quite a while now. Unless they are just minding the frequency for heat fm, who i believe were to return, however i haven't heard anything since, so that may no longer be happening?

No idea, I mean originally Space FM had on air ID's calling the station Base FM, which was Heat FM's original name, so one would think it was a reincarnation. But I would've expected Heat FM to do things in a more professional manner - don't get me wrong, it'd be great if they returned! Going back to what we have now (whatever it is), the playlist from what I've heard of it can't be more than an hour (max two) long, I'd hazard a guess there are less than 40 songs in the whole playlist. Even if it is just a test, they may as well relay the stream.

Relaying the stream would certainly make more sense anyway.

Carlow Radio seems to be the name of the station on 93.7 in Carlow. Of all the names they could've chosen, why they chose practically the same name as the station on 88.1 in the same area is beyond me.

Kiss FM have left the airwaves for the moment apparently. Very confusing situation in terms of the oldies stations which keep merging and dispersing in Dublin. Space FM have expanded their playlist and are now relaying some online podcasts - the FM feed I mean, which still doesn't mathh the online one.

Connect seem to have shut and Retro FM replaced them on 92.0, while Soulcity plan to take over 1395 KHz as well as 88.1

Of course, as it does. Don't see why they can't just operate one permanent station. I mean oldies, soul and easy listening or whatever they would mix (generally) are fairly relative, and it seems we're going to lose a long enough running oldies station broadcasting on the mediumwave band with everything else, though I'd assume - Soulcity being the professional station they are - have discussed their plans with Energy.

Quite possible. I guess time will tell what will actually happen.
