Are you sure that you're not looking at "Radiotext"? A scrolling PS would get OFCOM down on them really quickly.

I hate scrolling RDS, so bloody annoying when you're trying to drive. If Ofcom know they're doing this they'll be right on their tail (when the lockdown is over anyway).

Because it's very distracting for drivers.

Just watched the video. It's not streaming.

If you mean it's not scrolling yes you're technically correct, except in London pirate radio 'lingo' if the RDS changes everyone just calls it "scrolling RDS".

But no in the video it's indeed not letters/characters moving along the screen one by one, which some encoders or RDS programmes can also do...

Yeah I meant not scrolling. So isn't it RT as Albert suggests above? I thought that was legal but maybe not.

But if it's illegal because of distracting drivers then surely it's the same with dab radio with them saying what song is playing on the radio now?

DAB car radios don't show the "now playing" data when the car is in motion - if they're properly installed.

Maybe they are allowed to do this due to the good message that they are sending out. Plus people shouldn’t really be out in their cars to see this so I can’t see it being that much of a problem really

That's not really how the law works, I'm afraid...

I was so distracted by the scrolling RDS the other day that I crashed my car. Just before the crash I was also distracted by the M25 variable speed limit signs updating, going from 50 to 40 right in front of me so I had to slam on the brakes to make sure I didn't get a fine.
The traffic advice signs were just as distracting, suggesting that if I was tired I should stop for a sleep at the nearest service station in 27 miles, and then that it would take roughly 32 minutes to get to a junction I wasn't even going to.
Also quite distracting was getting my hands-free kit to connect to my ancient car so I could phone Ofcom to complain, the DVD the passenger was watching, the sat nav changing its mind about the fastest route and having to plug it in when the battery was running low, but what really did it was the scrolling RDS - it's so utterly inappropriate for people to have to deal with whilst driving!
