Best DAB radio portable ?

I use Tecsuns but recently my neighbour has installed something or something is sprogging all over the FM VHF band. (as a side question what could it be, actually one of them is ill and I wonder if it is some medical kit he installed so a bit of a sensitive issue. Don't want to go complaining yet. Or at all if I can help it, poor bloke.)

No hums or buzzes just like broadband white noise all over the band only 40+ dB signals make it through the 35dB noise.

I though a DAB might get lucky and not be effected. Any ideas on a good sensitive DAB portable ?

If you search DAB radio on ebay loads come up from £19.99 to £39.99 for a Roberts, there is something that looks ok called a Majority Cottenham refurb. If anyone has a DAB they are happy with I am interested to know. I love me pirates but no chance with this interference for now.

I got one from Lidl the other day, a cracking little radio for £27.

Thanks Dennis I don't have a Lidl local but will try and get one. There is of course a risk that my neighbours problem kit will wipe DAB out as well as it seems to be up about 200Mhz but at least I will have a DAB radio as well. Fingers crossed.

Not sure what they installed, a baby intercom, high power router are all I can think of ?

Bit of a mission driving about but I got one, last one in the shop ! It works, FM is still blotted out with noise on my Tecsun. I may tell them at some point in the future but not while the bloke is ill, be a bit neighbourly and that. Thanks Dennis at least I can have normal radio on to fall asleep to, nice one buddy.

The roberts solar powered radio in the bathroom is very good picks up with the aerial down, also isn’t overloaded when I fetch my aerial down with my 3w transmitter and operate it in my room, the clock radio in the bedroom opposite, which is about 3 times the distance away looses the station. Also have another crap 1 which is like picture frame it also gose berserk with fairly low power, the station list just scrolls, don’t think many dab radios would pass tests about been able to accept harmful levels of interference. :)

God only know what crappy kit thy have installed. 35dB from 8.7 to 108 blotting out everything except BBC stations.

I am guessing a cheap Chinese no QC baby intercom so he can ask for assistance if he need it.

If it's broadband white noise, it's probably coming from some kind of Switched Mode Power Supply. There were some SMPSUs in Apple computers a couple of years ago that generated hash from close to DC right up to >400 MHz. If it's generating that amount of RF noise, it's defective - whatever it is. Tell your neighbour about the problem, and say that it's interfering with your radio, telly, mobile phone and even your toaster! Point out that this amount of interference is not only intolerable, but it's illegal too - especially as it's messing up your burglar alarm!

Thanks for info, I will breach the subject at a later stage, he has a serious illness and I can live with it for a while. I have noted the date down when the problem started.

DAB is quite a bore really...I just use it for news etc.
