Makes me laugh that jackie are an ex-pirate and now complaining about pirates themselves. Guess some people really do forget where they come from

I’m not buying the whole using 108 puts you out of band. Iv heard it for years. Why would ofcom use 108.1 or 2 for such crucial services when it’s so close to the fm band? They give everything else such a huge space so why would they use 108.1. Sounds like pirate hear say to me. They’re probably using bad filter and have loud harmonics on 216mhz.

If so why is it always the first to go and quite a few pirates in the past have given up 108?

So is this ofcom clampdown/radio taboo using 108.0 in London a recent thing then? I'm certainly no London FM pirate radio historian but I swear in the last 25 years (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) Point Blank, Unknown & Pulse London (the latter back at some point during the 2010's) all spent significant time sucessfully using this dial during this period. In fact I'm pretty sure Pulse were actually the last ones to use 108.0 properly (as staying on there for a long period) - Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Pointblank were on the longest from around 1997 ish through till 2007 but the first 6 years was low power and weekend only and was never that powerful then there was the unknown fm 90.2 frequency swap with Pointblank which was a case of unknown bullying pb into forceing them of 108 at first until they came to an agreement which in the end turned out to be a huge favour to pb because they ended up with 90.2 for 14 years before they went legal last and I very much doubt if they could have stayed on 108 like that unknown lasted for a long time on 108 but had huge problems with it and as for pulse 108 it wasn't very long but it did seem to get much more attention from ofcom in the last 10 years than before

108-118mhz is used for aircraft nav beacons, list here: http://www.pilotfriend.com/flightplanni ... vaids1.htm

108.2 is used by the boscombe down raf base in wiltshire, probably in range of london if youre flying 35000 feet in the air

Been locked to 99.7 all day today. Have to say this new WK-END thing is a welcome and much needed addition to the dial. Tunes are always on point whenever I do lock in & the signal at my current location today (Stoneleigh) is decent. Big shout to the team behind it!

A stereo FM signal occupies roughly 250kHz, mono occupies just 180 kHz, so even a legal stereo station on 107.9 will be slightly out of band (up to 108.025 i.e. 107.9 plus half of 250 kHz). It's probably a matter of degrees, and the aeronautical guys are the first to complain if there's even a whiff of interference.

There's a study somewhere which was done years ago which said, if I recall, that the biggest source of interference to aircraft communications was industrial heating equipment which usually runs several kW at 27 MHz but has nasty harmonics right up into the aviation band. The second biggest cause was pirate radio, but specifically rigs that sprog, not well built ones. From memory there was nothing particular about stations using 108.

I'll see if it's still published and post a link later.

Just makes no sense to me. Either stop the FM band at 107.8/9 and use 108.2 as aircraft beacon, or move the beacon further up the band. Also 87.5 is going to be out of band but live fm are never off it. Again, pointless decision to have radios in the uk to go down to 87.5 if it’s not used.

Difference with 87.5 is the band below is basically dead beside a few business radio stuff

Yes it's not as bad on 87.5 as 108 and look at livefmuk they have been on over 5 years since they moved to 87.5 and I am wondering if it's the longest a station has been on on 87.5

Sadly I can't get you here in Bermondsey SE1 as Supreme FM's stereo signal on 99.8 is very strong in this area and completely wipes out 99.7.

Good move to change to the nice clear channel of 106.5, so as to not clash with Supreme FM on 99.8, except there's a fault somewhere. I am getting roughly 2 seconds of good strong signal, then 6 seconds of really weak signal with tons of static, then 2 of strong, 6 of weak, and repeat, regular as clockwork at the moment.

Hopefully for them project London won't give them a problem in the past even with long breaks off the air project pop up and get thier frequency back but it has been over 15 months since they were last on so someone new can't be blamed after all this time

Project's online stream has been dead for ever as well now to be fair. With that & leaving that dial vacant for well over a year if someone else did/does jump on it after all that time to make good use of it, I'd say it was fair game surely?! (So I also share Fame's sentiments) - I'm actually pretty surprised nobody else jumped on there long before now to be honest!

Fair play to the WK-END lot for the move, going by what's already been pointed out on previous posts on this thread, to go from a crowded 99.7 to a clear 106.5 can only mean good things for their coverage going forward (especially heading towards the East side of London, certain parts of North London, Essex & maybe Kent where I'd imagine Supreme on 99.8 are strong/dominant) Gotta say the tunes/DJ's I've heard on WK-END so far have all been very decent, so good luck to them!👍
