I was tinkering about ont tinternet yesterday and came across the Sheffield Community Radio stream. And it does happen to be the old crew behind it.. Dunno how long it's been going but can't be long. They don't have any jingles or owt yet so looks fresh to me and all i can say is thank f*+k it's back.. Sheffield Community Radio on tunein! Lock in now for your musical needs.. Just reggae atm though but i can imagine it'll be multi genre pretty soon just like the old one!

Yes mate totally agree.. Did you live up here when they were on before? My mums mate told me mum about a pirate station in Sheffield back in 89 and that was it, i was listening as much as I could and was a bit gutted when they finally went off for good.. I assume scr and all the other pirates went away because of the demolition of the tower blocks up here at Norfolk Park. They must have got out very far from the top two blocks.

I used to live in Notts, but visited Sheffield a lot in the late 80's to mid 90's. Loads of great stations back then in the area. Nottingham had a thriving radio scene too for many years with all sorts of styles - including a 'comedy' station!

went off air april 99, because of a youth that died, I had the interview on tape but got rid of all my tapes. I don’t fully understand the reasons, it was fairly interesting he talked about been raided he called it a lick, sounds like something you do with an ice scream, they had been broadcasting on the frequency of ymcr radio barnsley at the time was 107 when they complained, ‘it was riding crisp into barnsley’ said he was packing all his equipment away in a cupboard

Also would like to add I'm not impressed with SCR Internet stylee.. The audio is a bit flat and sounds nothing like it used to on the old wireless (radio).. Was reading their application for fm license they put in and their tx site was one of two blocks at Norton (South Sheffield) with an excellent view. Shame, that would've got out for miles and miles east and north east maybe west Yorkshire too. Not sure how far south it would have gone though. I've never looked that way when i had the chance tbh.

I did just listen the audio dose seem abit thin, theres an fm scan from york on youtube from jack bromby, he did alot of good scans hes been on hoilday lately, it shows sheffield live coming up on the car radio, it would of been recieveable round here on a car radio.

I did once have the interview, shame I didn’t keep my old tapes would of quite something to hear, they where mostly of fantasy and the other sheffield pirates aswell as dream. Other than memory I don’t think there is anymore info about them other than the blog you posted a while ago, would be great if someone made a video showing the old places where they transmitted from and the record shops, whats there now.

Or8 mate.. The tx blocks are long gone now.. There's some across to the west of Sheffield in netherthorpe and some at Norton but how accessible these blocks are nowadays is anyone's guess!
There's plenty of tx sites in or around Sheffield if you look hard enough.. I've got about 6 marked out for the future but do need power to a few but that's OK it's not a big problem.. There's also plenty around Rotherham and probably a few more than I've seen as i don't go to toy town much anymore. Hope you're good radionortheast!

hope you are well too, I will have a look at nertherthorpe and norton on google sometime, I was listening to vixen 101 this morning since it was playing dance, some of the adverts do sound simliar to a pirate the jingle said problaly the best radio station in the world in a deep voice, i’m sure I heard exactly the same jingle on scr, it changed back to none dance after 9 o clock. Maybe if you put your transmitter on a big enough hill it will go all the way to hull ;)
