Manchester - Loud Hum

Post by shuffy » Thu May 19, 2016 12:29 am

Anyone else getting a loud hum this evening... every 700KHz or so, a few MHz around 102MHz? It seems to be on for around 15 seconds, then off for 5, repetitively. It's not local to me because I've picked it up in the car over a distance of 2 miles and it's not my car radio because I've heard it on 3 different receivers.

The dial is so congested up here it's hard to tell where the centre frequency is, but it's definitely taking out 100.7 and 102.8. It's quite clearly audible on 99.95 and noticeable on 98.6, 104.4, 105.6.

So if that's about the extent of it, and it's a rig sprogging because of a low frequency oscillation in the PA at ~700KHz, then that would maybe put the centre frequency on 102.1? But that's 100 KHz away from Crapital who bang out so it's hard to tell. Same story with other stations on frequencies where I'd expect to hear it.

The web stream's been silent since yesterday afternoon. If the box is sprogging, you wouldn't necessarily hear anything on the carrier frequency to give it away. What you would notice however, is a slight drop in power level of the main carrier when it's sprogging. I am NOT suggesting this is what's going on but I've just done a 2 minute test and the carrier does seem to be dropping very slightly when the hum appears on 102.8. If it's still happening tomorrow morning and I'm up early enough before work, I'll check it out more thoroughly.

When the web stream comes back on, it will be more obvious as you'll hear elements of the modulation with the sprogs but yes, it's the box on 101.4 which is sprogging. Close by the site it's wiping out half the dial.

If anyone from innov8 is reading this can you please fix your TX or go off till its fixed as your sprogging on us and a few other places on the dial and not just that your also getting things on top for us too , not trying to be funny and hope you will co-operate with us cheers in advance
