87.5 Faze FM (now on 99.8MHz) - Wiltshire and Hampshire

Post by teckniqs » Fri Apr 17, 2015 10:35 pm

Something new seems to have popped up playing back to back House, UKG, Dubstep & DnB etc on 87.5.
Pal of mine in Salisbury says it's very strong there and also solid all the way down to Southampton.

....Anyone know what this is?

Why, when something interesting comes on in the West country, is it nearly always outside of Bristol?

EDIT: Well, Salisbury is a bit in-between West and South I suppose, but still...

Well, nothing here, at least in my part of Bristol. If I'm feeling up to it I might go for a walkabout in Warminster later if it's still on. Then again, could just go up high Lansdown (Bath) cause that's possible I guess. Used to just, just about hear Sub Zero up on Lansdown on 87.5 when that was on.

Phase fm or summat. Live djs now. Phone number etc... Got it on top of a hill in Warminster. Lovely weather. Pity about the golfers. I expected a nice hill with no people on it but theres a golf course up here.

Haha, yeah my pal was saying it was called 'face' FM.
Yeah there's also a transmitter for 107.5 on top of the phone mast on that hill too.

It might be Face FM, I can't tell cause Phase / Face sound the same when somebody is shouting it down a mic. I've started to think it's Face actually, cause in the less noisy moments that's what it sounded more like.

I did wonder if there was anything on the mast, but didn't tune about cause I was trying to listen.

It's not strong by any means. In the town it was there but weak and really patchy. Even on the hill the best I could manage was about 20db 18s/n on the Tecsun. I managed to get my RockBoxed ClipZip up to 21db but it never locked.

This comes in quite well in Whitchurch. The signal peaks beaming SW and during a drive back home from Lyme Regis I noticed that the signal was VERY strong on the car radio around the Salisbury ring road.

Shame it's mono with no RDS though.

Going by the signal and location of the TX, I'd say it must be at least 50w and could be anything up to 200w.

Was in Basingstoke a couple of days ago and had an interesting mix of another station battling it out with Raw.

It's covering the Isle of Wight nicely, my pal says.

Does it get around the whole place despite the massive hills on the island? IOW radio has to have 2 freqs to cover it completely because it's so hilly.

I've heard the bass from it faintly on a hill between Clutton and Pensford on the Tecsun, but it was only one little spot in one field on that hill that it came in. Today, I went up to Warwick for a work meeting and we stopped on the hill at Birdlip on the way back for a break - 87.5 was blank carrier up there, could've been it I guess, but could also have been an mp3 tx in a car parked up close by, or just something else... who knows.

its still coming through loud and proud here in winchester. i wish that raw would shift frequency though as it breaks through as I drives up the m3. phase is a much better station than raw.

A pal of mine can hear this 'Faze FM' from Wiltshire all the way up near Watford in Hertfordshire up on high ground.

....That's a good 70 miles away!
