Live fm uk

Post by House & garage lover » Fri Feb 20, 2015 4:58 pm

I have noticed that this lot have been having nothing but trouble lately, their link is not stable at all and the audio output is virtually unlistenable. Such a shame for the dial that it's on and what was an 'established' station..

Ay ??? Audio is perfect at the moment. Infact they got the 1 of the best sounding audio's. Tune in now to 91.8fm, how can anyway say they don't sound good ??

Sounds all good now, last night there was a terrible high pitched whine on the carrier, sounded shite.

The high pitched noise is exactly why I wrote this topic! Noticed it always does it when it's raining locally hence why I said their link seems unstable to me. They have their days of sounding good and then some like a limiter is working too hard somewhere along the line.

This is a bad look because it could be taking out other stations close by like 91.3 if the radio is not very sensitive.

last time i checked the signal was pretty decent for me high up but I was also getting this horrendous static which sounds a bit like mobile phone interference - made the station unlistenable unfortunately

Sometimes the microwave dishes on the masts can interfere with an LNB. Have had this happen before.

How do you know the LNB is near a microwave dish.

Never heard such inconsistency in audio quality from an established station.

Just listening to them now, the audio is great quality but there is a faint electronic noise in the background. Sounds like a faulty switch mode power supply in the rig (if it has one) but could be wrong...

I've had that before with some switch mode PSU's. It makes a high pitched whining sound which sounds quite similar to the RDS level being too loud. I've also experienced it when attempting to use an MOD mast covered in huge dishes, the noise was intermittent with the transmission of the dishes.

Sounds to me like the rds tone within the link box is squealing because the link is unstable, even now when I listen carefully I can hear it trying to drift out of link and then as soon as the rain comes along well it's game over for live! All I know is if I was anything to do with it a problem like that would get right on my wick and I wouldn't rest until that is sorted!!
I've known com to come out for stations transmitting sporadic noises like that.

From what you just said it sounds like it's probably a problem with a mid-point which is a bit harder for them to keep maintained.

I'm amazed how they have lasted so long on the [location removed by admin] not getting out as well as it should either

[Do not post locations of transmitters on this forum, this is your only warning]

Its getting out pretty well everywhere to fair. There was post here somewhere with a comment saying that it is reaching Chelmsford, so the signal must be doing quite well

I've heard that they are reaching deep into Hertfordshire solid, which is a fair old distance away from them now.
