Folded dipole or end fed vertical

Everything technical about radio can be discussed here, whether it's transmitting or receiving. Guides, charts, diagrams, etc. are all welcome.

So necks what your opinion, which one would you choose.

Or

Out of the 2, the end fed one, IMO.

They are both dipoles at the end of the day - 0dBd. Don't confuse the vertical one with something like a Steve Moss half wave vertical - I'm assuming it's a sleeve job (and therefore you get away without a balun) but the electrical feed point is actually half way up. The folded one needs a balun. So, if it's one of the above or nothing, then the vertical wins IMO but I wouldn't choose either.

Quite right shuffy, only out of the 2 is the end fed a better choice but something else with gain would better.

I'd only consider these two if doing a 28 day RSL.

I've noticed a lot of community stations seem to use the folded Jaybeam, why is this? Is it due to restrictions on the erp?

Maybe he's setting up a cab office?

Nope no cab office, I got given these antennas from a guy who was also involved with a RSL years ago he said they ain't used since and the transmitter was given away and they won't be using it in the near future so gave they to me. Was wondering on people's thoughts on what they would put perfer to use if any just a general radio question stupid I suppose.

Its wasted using it for pirate radio as they are expensive antennas plus the endfed is pretuned for 87.7 +/- so only good for RSL's going to use the folded dipole on my receiver and endfed put with my other collection of radio bits.

Used to have a half wave NRG vertical and that thing blew any folded dipole away. Think I've still got the pictures of it somewhere.

You didn't need an aerial in your radio for miles, until I accidentally stuffed 180w and melted the fucker.

Wish I bought the 150w version instead of the 50w.
